I remarked last night that I thought Hudson looked beautiful and sounded amazing but I only looked at the screen before she started to sing and then looked away as I was working on some sketchs so it disappointed me to hear she lipped. I know they want the best performance of the National Anthem but I would rather hear someone sing live instead of pretend to sing. It's suppossed to be a singing performance not an acting performance like in a silent movie with sound added.

It's no secret I'm a conservative but I've also gone on record several times here saying how much I like Bruce's music. I didn't like the performance yesterday. I know I'm in the minority regarding yesterday, but I just didn't find it all that thrilling. Believe me, it has nothing to do with politics. Bruce didn't even say anything before or after the performance that was remotely political. I don't even care about a song with political content if it's a good song. There's a reason I own several Bruce albums, several U2 albums, all the CSNY albums, all the Mellencamp albums etc. It's good music.

Most of my favorite Springsteen albums, going all the way back to Born to Run and even as recently as Magic (don't have Dream yet), are layered so well and just have so much going on, instrumentation wise. I find that missing in Bruce's live show, his huge-ass backing band notwithstanding. Takes away some of the power for me.

Bruce and company put on a "show". Sometimes the show is not all about the vox. Take ACDC, Van Halen, etc. Those boys put on a show. Journey has never been about showmanship, it's more about killer vocal/musical talent. Perry should have gone on stage and just sat in a fkin rockin chair to support TBF, that STILL would have been worth the ticket. And yes..even with Arnel's new found fluttering eye movement to support the high notes (WTF?!?!?), they still "sounded" better than Bruce.
