The entirety of Journey's preshow concert

Postby Gideon » Mon Feb 02, 2009 4:07 pm

What's the likelihood of some of the rest of the footage being thrown up on Youtube? I really want to see it. Cain described it as my ideal Journey concert: minimal ballads.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

I don't think the chances are that good. Unless a huge Journey fan had seats to the Super Bowl and recorded some of the concert. I don't see the average football fan who walked by the stage stopping to record Journey. And if they did, I don't see them uploading it to YouTube. Since the show was only open to fans who had game tickets, our only hope is for a huge Journey fan to have been there.

I think he means the whole concert rather than just the network's broadcast of that one tune.

According to another thread, Deano was somehow able to see the whole set. He wasn't really impressed with Arnel's performace throughout.

I just listened to DSB from the SB for the first time.

I will hold my comments out of respect for the fans of the band.

Cain said they'd open with NWA and "Stone in Love" would be in there, "maybe Lights." And he said they were going to cut down on the ballads.

Re-watching it, Arnel had a bad outing. He had many hiccups right off the bat, and didn't seem to the the MMMF in his high notes that he had during the tour. Give the man a rest, and he should tone down on the duets and all that other stuff he's been doing. Augeri wasn't doing any of this and we all know how that ended.

Tell me they played "Change For the Better." And then tell me they kicked ass on it.

Dude, I couldn't tell you if they did. The only songs I know on their new POS is NWA and AATY. I still haven't bought or listened to that disc.

Do you mean live or on the CD?

And Deano, thanks a lot, you fucker. I rely on you for one thing and you let me down!

He posted it on a thread called "The entirety of Journey's preshow concert" so it looks like he's referring to the Superbowl show.

I appreciate the sarcasm, however:

1.) People don't always post relevant things on threads. Especially here. 2.) It wasn't confirmed by anyone here to be in the setlist.

Nice try.

In one of the threads at the official forum, there are links to 5 or 6 songs and a setlist.

Good find. Here are a few more clips:

Part of Stone In Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5UcHxgw8uw

Separate Ways: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO-O3wJe-4Y

Arnel sounds really rough on Separate Ways.

Look at Arnel at the 50 second mark! I say again.... That's a little inappropriate for a Superbowl show!  And I think this song is just as bad as the other! They're using pipped in vocals (which I don't mind so much), but then Deen's trying to sing a lead harmony to Arnels lead (which is out of pitch in that part) and it comes off horribly. I honestly feel like they may have jammed for 5 minutes on two songs before they got up there and just tried to wing it. I think they're some of the best musicians in the world, but this was definitely NOT a good day for them. Can't wait to hear some other clips.

Reason is because surprise, surprise. Arnel isn't a good vocalist. He was terrible on the re-recordings, he was terrible in the youtube clips on his first shows in the band. He only sounds good on the new cd because, well anyone can sound good now a days in the studio. The guy can't bring it in a live setting and now they've got Augeri's backing tracks to go along with him. WTF. Bring back Soto or get a vocalist who can stay in pitch, or hang it up.

There is a reason why I didn't go see JRNY on the last tour and this is it.

I usually lurk when I come to this message board, but when I hear something that is shitty (The Superbowl DSB) or something good I comment on it.

There's an obvious line in the sand here...

Postby ttango1 » Wed Feb 04, 2009 1:10 pm

But no matter what...the people that watched Journey this past tour outnumber you at least 500 to 1.

Complain all you want...I know that this lineup has kicked ass, saw it live all over California and every time, the crowd I talked to left feeling AMAZED.

But you wouldn't know that if YOU NEVER SAW THEM.
