I don't think Perry was selling or promoting anything with that performance, he was just there as a semi-retired singer joining in with fans. Yesterday was supposed to be the ultimate commercial for the new lineup of Journey. A little bit different.[/quote]

exactly, WAY different

If they are serious about continuing this latest line up, they "may" have just given a big middle finger to the biggest and best audience they ever had.

I thought it was a good performance..just excited to see Journey have a huge audience! Ya, some parts of the song were up and down...but hey, maybe it was nerves?

google ads are more targeted though. we'll probably get ads from the music industry.

...but then again, with the amount of "fuck" and "dick" posted on this board, we might get porn ads too

Sounded more like "Wokinod" to me. There are so many dictation issues with this clip that it's driving me insane! I noticed several the first listen, but the more I listen...it just gets worse! I'm not trying to be a hater (and I've been an avid Arnel supporter from the get-go), but this was bad. I know several of you think it sounded fine, and that's great... each person has their own likes and dislikes. I'm a fan of Revalation and look forward to any new material, but I won't be going to a concert unless they're supporting new material. All I'm saying.

Separate Ways from yesterday. After the first three rows of people the rest of the crowd is looking like "What is this, that's not Perry". It's got to suck playing to a crowd that isn't there to watch a concert so much as eating and drinking and waiting for the game.

He had some fans calling out his name, those guys in front. That's pretty cool. I saw that on the end of Stoned In love too, same group. I thought he sounded fine. A little strained in a couple places but otherwise really nailed the high parts and was enjoyable.

But to find out he did 2 gigs in 3 days before this event, I felt was pretty reckless, even if they were scheduled before the show. Super Bowl takes precedence over anything, anytime. Even if he did the show on Friday and not Saturday, a cross country flight shuffling through airports the day before the show may well have been just as bad as singing. To spend 8 hours dehydrating in a plane before performing for nearly 100 million people just doesn't make sense....

Thank you for validating my point. Pineda is selfish and irresponsible in this. When they booked the SB, he should have resceduled his charity shows. If that wasn't possible, which anything is possible except changing the date of the biggest show on television, Pineda should have written a check out or better yet, Journey Mgt should have written a check out. The money spent could have been repaid back by Pineda in increments from their upcoming tour and also, the exposure, when it is favourable, is worth millions and millions when doing a show with the Super Bowl. Anyone know if Journey was paid for their gig? I say this seriously, as Bruce was paid zilch, nata, zero. He will make so much fucking cash just by being on the show and performing well. Can you imagine if he came in late and sounded as bad as Pineda? His career would take a serious hit.

RE Journey's management, I believe they are 100% handled by John Baruck now. I don't believe Tom Consolo even works for Azoff Management right now. But yes, the interest is not in promoting the career, which is partly the culture at Azoff Management - they don't have to break new acts, they just essentially broker mega-deals for acts already in their prime. The relationship between Azoff Management and Journey is basically - You do whatever you want, we'll field and develop any interest RE your catalog (and deal with Mr P in the process) and we'll collect our several million dollars a year commissions. I don't know if anyone really thought out the consequences of not making sure AP was in Florida several days before the show.

Yeah I know Baruck handles them, but I was talking in general for the common fan. Cosolo is I believe with REO(I could be wrong). You are correct though, as Mgt is hands off and is nothing more than a scheduler and booking agent.

Bruce's career took a serious hit as soon as he mentioned guacamole, chicken wings, went balls deep into a cameraman, had Stevie play a dogshit solo, and then brought out a fake referee to throw a flag.

Ive been away for a few days and I'm really disappointed to see the shit that's been posted here about the Superbowl thing. Seriously! Most of you are acting like a bunch of kids! I expect this garbage out of Deano and that's cool, but WTF! How many of you were talking about, Oh! I wish Journey could get some play, some publicity etc... a couple of years ago. And now they're playing at the FUCKING SUPER BOWL!!! But! the key was lowered( doesn't know WTF shes talking about) , diction sucked, it wasn't the half time show! (To bad cause it would have kept me awake, talk about boring!) If it wasn't for Arnel this would be the fucking Van Halen forum with a post every three months. I respect everyone's opinion, but to me this has just been a big pile on. Personally, I don't want this to be BT, in any way, shape or form. But, this is a Journey Fan site isn't it? [/b]

People have the right to say if they think a singer's performance was off. I don't hear anyone complaining about the rest of the band members. Arnel had a bad night, and even his greatest fans were surprised by it. I don't think anyone is overreacting. I think people are just being honest about what they saw and heard. Simon Cowell probably would have called it a good karaoke performance. Randy Jackson would have said, "Sorry dawg, but you can't do The Voice justice like that."

I wonder if Steve Perry watched it? I bet he did, and he probably wasn't impressed.

Arnel stepped into some big shoes. I'm sure he's man enough to walk in them. Trying to impersonate Steve Perry definitely opens you up to critique.

Hey 78, in the poll stats above "overall good" still got the most votes. It was a one off so who's to say exactly what happened. A lot of the criticism (including some I've given) is nitpicky but we've had no Journey news for months so we latched onto it.

I've replayed it a few times and its ok. Too many shots of Friga, not enough Fro (& The Hulk).
