The band's integrity is not defined by management.

IMO, and I'm sure no one gives a shit but I'm saying it anyway, is that they did a pretty decent job. Not their best obviously, but definitely not their worst. I'm glad they had that kind of exposure though, either way. Any publicity is good publicity, no matter what.

My friend in San Francisco called today to ask me, "Did you see Journey play in the pre-game show?"
I said, "yeah." He said, "It ought to be illegal for that guy to try to impersonate Steve Perry!" :D

Then I found this MTV article, with just one paragraph about Arnel and the rest of the article about Perry
with a Perry video...........

In case you are wondering............. This is the State Bird of Minnesota, The "common loon." :D

I think the problem right now is Arnels fans, not Arnel himself.
Arnel didnt perform 100% like he normally does, but even he knows it and he is learning from it.
I admire loyalty to your favorite artist. But to be completely blinded and sticking your head in the sand and saying he performed GREAT, is just plain stupid.

I'd like this MARK who commented on the MTV article to come post here at MR

That would be my dream if "Mark" came over here. You know how people have dreams? MLK had his dream of equality. Sleeping Beauty had her dream, even Bruce is workin on his dream. My dream is have "Mark" register here at MR.

Let me add, that my respect and support goes to Arnel, because of his personality and his honesty with himself and his fans. 9 out of 10 artists would never admit to their mistakes and would except the fans to accept it and move on.
Arnel shows his true integrity and also the fact that he is who he is and he hasnt let the evil side of Journey affect him or change who he is.
Lets just hope that they(Neal&Co) dont use it again him in the future. We all know by now how Schon & Cain frown upon any singer-fan interaction, specially if something negaive is said.

Best of luck Mr Pineda.

Maybe not. But then that just makes these continual missteps and errors fall more on the shoulders of the band members themselves.

True, but as long as the $$ comes in, the management doesnt mind that. They band performs, the management gets the money and if any mistake are made, the fingers are pointed at the band member(s). I wish I was in a position like that . (The management, not the band  )

I think other than a handful of haters, who were haters from the beginning anyway, most of us agree with this! While knowing Sunday wasn't the best, we know how great it has been and it will be fine again in the future.

Ditto.

It also wasn't as bad as its been made out to be. He still had his voice and hit the important soaring notes.

Arnel's probably his own worst critic so I don't envy the guilt and disappointment he expressed. He's overcome worse obstacles so I expect him to do just fine.

All the problems I had with his singing style in Chile were still there last Sunday. Has nothing to do with "hating".

I thought that they did fine. After reading today that Faith Hill and that other chick lip synched their acts there, I give even more credit now to Journey for their performance at the Super Bowl game. Leaves me wondering how those two singers who lip synched would have sounded singing live. Welcome to the wonderful music world of pro-tools.

What amazes me is that only 20 years ago Milli Vanilli got busted for lip synching. Seems that most people today look at lip synching as just a way music is performed now.

Why do you think people here jumped all over Journey a few years ago, they are guilty of it themselves, and then dumped Augeri under the bus like they had no idea what happened (That's why we laugh at this band of brothers bullshit they feed to Arnel). Faith and Jennifer were doing one song only, hell, even Whitney lip synced on her famous rendition of the anthem. John Legend and Journey were actually performing concerts in the Beer garden. In that small close up environment, they couldn't have lip synced even if they wanted to.

Didn't Milli Vanilli lip-synch to someone else's vocals and it was someone else's voices on the records. I thought that was the big controversy I've always heard. Faith and Jennifer came in the week b/f and laid down their vocals for the show per the show's request.

You are correct. And if Arnel was going to sing the national anthem, they would have had him do the same thing. It is standard procedure to have a backup recording for the anthem in case of sickness or the weather conditions, it's one song only and they can't have the singer blowing it. It's still their voices and no one paid money to see them sing. People just want to see the game. Whitney even did it and had no problem saying so. It's totally different from performing a concert or using other peoples voices like Milli Vanilli did.

That's true what you say, but that was the end result. When they were caught lip synching, it made front page news right when it happened. Another thing leading up to the lip synching incident, was they couldn't ever appear on the Arsenio Hall show cause Hall's policy was that musicians had to do their music live on his show. So even before the truth came out, the general public looked down hard on musicians who couldn't do their music live.

Milli Vanilli won Grammy's, where SA and Journey just defrauded thousands of hard earned money. I don't know which is worse.

And what about all the time in between? I'm pretty sure I agreed that the SB performance WAS close to the Chile performance with diction. But you can't just IGNORE all that happened in between, which many of us witnessed live and in person on more than one occasion. His diction improved immensely. And by "haters" I mean hating his voice and his singing, I did not mean in a racist context if that's what you thought I meant.

There was a court order or settlement agreement to refund money to concert goers, and people who bought the album.

I was living in Japan at the time when all this went down with Milli Vanilli. It was unbelievable, I just couldn't believe that this happened, that a producer would do this. I still remember listening to the radio news one evening when one of the Milli Vanilli guys started to sing "Girl You know It's True" during a session in court. Milli Vanilli was very popular in Japan too then. I remember taking our girls out and we'd spend a few hours out in town shooting pool and watching Milli Vanilli videos in the club. I still to this day have the Milli Vanilli album I had purchased back then. I thought it was good stuff.
