Songs I Wish Steve Perry Had Recorded

Postby SherriBerry » Sun Feb 08, 2009 10:12 pm

Rick Springfield had a great concept in putting out a CD of songs made famous by other artists that he wished he had written and recorded. If Steve Perry were to put out a CD like that, what are some of the songs you wish he would record?

I have a few:

Unchained Melody (Righteous Brothers) - of course
Bring It On Home (Sam Cooke)
We've Got Tonight (Bob Seger)

I think he would have kicked ass on the best song Journey's written since he left the band... "What I Needed". That song was made for his vocals!

"Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
I would kill to hear what Perry would do with that song.

Of course, I would prefer all new Perry originals, but...here are three sappy songs by Ambrosia that I think he could do well: "How Much I Feel," "You're The Only Woman," and "Biggest Part Of Me."

Are the two of you kidding me with this?

Who would want to hear Perry sing anything off of Revelation? Lyrically, that album needs help. Actually, lyrically, that album needed Steve Perry's help, because that other songwriter they got... whoo boy.  The only thing on there I might concede to is "Never Walk Away." I could hear that coming out of Perry. Maybe.

It's going to be interesting to see who Andrew awards the album of the year to....my bet is on Jimi Jamison. I think he gave Revelation too high of a rating.

I'd like to hear the first half of Sunshower from Perry, but that is it. Like you said, the other song writer needs his help on Revelation. AATY is sappy enough that I could see Perry wanting to do it, but it would have been a much more dramatic ending I think, without as much repetition.

Wait, what is going on? Everybody has been up in arms on MR on the second disk e-records on Revelation and yet many people on here are naming songs recorded by Journey with Arnel and Steve Augeri. Sounds like a double standard to me.

I say new songs.

The idea this was a hypothetical based on Rick Springfield's idea... the concept here is IF Steve Perry were going to explore songs he wished he'd recorded first, not "what should he cover..." Granted, I doubt Steve would agree with any of this, but we're just playing around. Its ok to inclue other Journey tunes. I wish Perry has a crack at Higher Place... the re-records is another matter, at least to me.

He sure as Hell wouldn't do any Journey songs created after his departure. He doesn't want to give them money, Their doing fine helping to keep him paid instead. DSB climbing itunes again, it must be great being a song writer. CHA-CHING.
