Despite the turmoil that surrounded his run, the fans came out winners for having this music.

My favorites (playing as I post):

I agree, some good stuff came from that era: My two favorites

Walking Away from the Edge

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtGAf7V2k-o

Higher Place
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9pabqSy ... re=related

I like his voice on the two Tall Stories albums even better than his Jouney work though

Yeah, personally I'd put Higher Place above Remember Me, but I also think the sound of the that tune has a lot to do with Dean's backing vocals.

Too bad TBAA didn't get any airplay. It's better than some tracks on Revelation. I think Remember Me got some airplay.

What a long strange journey its been.

Three of my favorites as well. Ironically, I was just listening to "Signs of Life" on repeat for 20 minutes.

Signs of Life
Higher Place
Remember Me
To Be Alive Again
I Got A Reason
We Will Meet Again
I Can Breathe
The Time
All the Way
World Gone Wild
Faith in the Heartland
The Place In Your Heart
Out of Harm's Way

I thought Arrival had far too many filler songs without drive or hook, but those handful of songs that it got right were superb, ranking up there with any of Perry or Pineda-led songs. "Signs of Life" should have been a radio hit, as catchy as it was.

I hope some of the Augeri-era songs make their way to the setlist this year.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

What about Kiss Me Softly? Not the usual Journey sound, and to me this is the type of song Steve Augeri should sing, where his voice seems really comfortable. My favorite song of his with Journey.

A lot of posters rave about Remember Me. I think ... good SA vocals and there's Neal's solo, of course. But, to me, it doesn't have that uniqueness to warrant a "great song" tag. Higher Place and FITH ... much better songs.

Beyond the Clouds is my favorite SA-sung tune.

"Beyond the Clouds" is another good one, as is "Kiss Me Softly." Actually, I love the sound of "Knowing That You Love Me" (the melodies and harmonizing), but Jon Cain really fumbled the ball with the "go back in time and hold you as a child" lyrics.

I just caught the Armaggedon (sp?) video with the Remember Me song on YT. Watching the video (excerpts from the movie) to go with the song makes it better -- very uplifting. We all know how the movie ended with BW sacrificing his life to save the world and all the close-ups of the actors make it very moving. SA did a very good job singing the song.

Remember Me, Higher Place, Signs of Life, Livin To Do, To Be Alive Again, Kiss Me Softly, Faith in the Heartland, Out of Harm's Way, Beyond The Clouds, and The Place In Your Heart are all outstanding songs. It's a real pity that the standouts from Generations are absolutely ruined by the "recorded in a tiny bathroom" production/mixing.

I agree with you Gideon about the lyrics in Knowing That You Love Me. I think I remember Cain touting this song as the next Open Arms.

I always thought that the "Remember Me" harmonies sounded like Rolie was in there. Did anybody else ever get that vibe? Just sounds like his voice in the mix.

I like most if not all of Augeri's Journey stuff (Yes, even those two). Got no problem with the guy's recorded works. My only problem with Steve (besides that one) was that live, his pitch wasn't very good. There's "a little flat" and there's way off the mark. Still, I like him a lot and think he's a class act. It's gotta be tough to do that many shows and stay in shape.

I don't think there's an Augeri Journey song I don't like, though the low point for me would be "All the Way". I prefer "those two that shall not be named" to this one by a million times. Just too 'contrived' for me. I also think "I'm Not That Way" was a decent song.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I agree, I never really liked "All the Way." It was a typical Journey ballad, but it was always missing something. I always liked Augeri's tunes with Journey, unfortunately, underrated for the most part for various reasons that could be argued at length, and have been at some point.

Hate it.
Especially the offkey yodeling of "yeah, yeah, yeah" at the end.
However, I'll give the song credit for eschewing the typical Journey feel-good template.
It, along with a few other songs on Arrival, we're def. forging ahead, whereas Revelation seems proudly stuck in 80's nostalgia.

It's well executed, but as another fan mentioned on here, even 'Generations' seemed a little more forward thinking.
When Cain mentioned going back to "the legacy sound" with Arnel, he just as well could've meant the band's entire approach to songwriting.
'Revelation' plays like a deliberate effort to sound like the Journey of yore.
Which, as long as the album delivers, I'm perfectly fine with.

Brywool and Marco are officially designated total bastards.

How can you not like "All the Way"? The harmonizing = perfect. Augeri's delivery = perfect. The guitar solo = perfect. The keyboards = perfect. One of the best ballads this band has ever produced.

I like it but it has always seemed that it was missing something. Like it was only 95% complete. Can't put my finger on it but maybe it was to ballady of a ballad with no real hook. Anyway...
