No, they're pretty mean. Poor little thing must have been desperate. Omg... I feel tears coming.

Koalas also don't normally drink water, they get what they need from the leaves they eat. But the long heatwave we had before the fires started lefted so many of them badly dehydrated they were coming in looking for water. There are a whole lot of photographs here - http://www.news.com.au/gallery/0,22613,5037290-5014156,00.html# - of desperately thirsty koalas coming into people's gardens for water and letting people come to give them a drink, something they would never normally do.
This one really got me. This baby's mother was so badly dehydrated, she didn't realise the baby had dropped off (mother koalas carry their joeys on their backs). The baby was so hot and desperate that when the family that found it put out a bowl of water for it, it just climbed straight in. The baby survived but unfortunately the mother didn't.

Hot tub, cuban... and a pet koala that is as cute as that little fuzzbutt. That must be how the other half live.

Before thinking of them as a pet, I know most of you know this, read the stuff below:
The koala might look cuddly but they have very sharp teeth and very sharp claws, which can do quite a good deal of damage.
Koala cuddling has been banned in New South Wales since January 1997 but cuddling is still permitted in Queensland and most other States.
In Queensland, koalas can only be cuddled for less than 30 minutes per day. They must also get every fourth day off. Unions rule even Koalas.
The New South Wales law is quite controversial as a koala’s temperament is mostly determined by their upbringing. Many raised in captivity seem to expect a cuddle so the war of words continues.

The panda eats shoots and leaves. That's far worse.
