His best performance has to be Patiently from 1980 tour in Houston. The Still They Ride performance someone posted earlier is also damn good

Journey most certainly do not suck. However they have been known to blow! Never liked Sabbath, even with Dio at the helm.

I'll vote for 'I'll Be Alright Without You/Cupid' from the 'For the Love of Strange Medicine tour'. I could listen to that over and over without getting bored.

Patiently - 1980 Houston

Postby annie89509 » Sat Feb 14, 2009 1:21 pm

A few posters mentioned the Departure tour Patiently performance at Houston. Here it is:

Summit Arena, Houston, 4-12-80
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AY9F1OLG

In my opinion, the Comiskey Park performance in ’79 (opening post) was more memorable (the spine-tingling ending note more sustained and reached higher).

As reigning champion, you must be more than a little nervous to have your title whisked away by someone a third your age. I can appreciate the source of your anger; it's quite humiliating to get so riled up by a 17 year old, isn't it?

Nothing you ever express is an opinion, but rather a fact in your own mind.

Glad we understand one another.

I'll start listening to your opinions when you finally reach puberty.

Alas, my initial response to this thread wasn't addressed to you. The fact that you somehow think that it was and that I yearned for you to listen to my opinion might suggest to a less charitable person that you, are in fact, the pompous fuck. This diagnosis is supported by the fact that you amply demonstrate such behavior on a regular basis. You've constantly misinterpreted everything I say and somehow think that what I type must pass your judgment.

Welcome to your homepage: http://www.narcissism101.com

Drew...can't we at least require members here to be 18? Fuck...I have socks older than this dope

If you're going to flame me, feel free to do so, but at least do us all the honor of getting it right. That's the second time I've told you, and there won't be a third. You won't bait me into a flame war and you're not getting under my skin.

Best pick on someone who will fall into your less-than-concealed trap, sir. :P

Edit: For the record, since I'm in the mood to point out your mistakes, you've made two very big ones (aside from the obvious one of trying to bait me into a flame war). First, you (again) misinterpreted what I've said. I was referring to the thousands of Youtube comments from casual Journey fans citing the "Mother, Father" performance from Houston as the best Perry had to offer; not you. Second, the statement was followed up with a qualifier -- imho, an acronym that stands for "in my honest opinion."

Nowhere was I trying to pass off anything as fact.

Better luck next time?

Are you talking about Budokan in '83, the one that is taped? I think you probably can see the videos on YT.

I love the Budokan... supreme vocals there. But my mind keeps swaying back to the Beacon Theater...the lowering of the tuxedo... loved that. Wished to GOD I'd seen it live instead of on a lousy (but oh so grateful for) videotape.

As does belittling someone you don't even know for a comment which was simply my view, you hypocritical cretin.

Would you rather everyone add 'in my opinion' to every debate or discussion? Now go fly back to your crypt and seal the airtight door properly this time.

There's no use, actually.

I do it in almost every fucking post (almost ten times in one thread, three posts), and some dude just completely bypassed it all and called me out on being a pretentious prick who tries to pass off his opinion as fact.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Houston 1980. The whole show is a masterpiece.

I have to agree with everyone who selected the Houston 1980 concert. Perry was at the top of his game vocally & he looked great! IMO

Common courtesy? Get with the program. You are on a message board where people post threads for discussion. Practically everything posted is someone's opinion. Can you imagine if politicians had to tow your PC line, nothing would ever be achieved. And yes I know most message board users are far from being politicians and thankfully the majority are also far from being politically correct.

Next time want to offer your 'opinion' of me and I'm assuming it was your merely opinion as you didn't state it was (lack of common courtesy on your part? ) please present it in the form of a pm rather than your own version of fact in an open thread.

Oh come Gideon. You have been here before and know the score. Not everyone is going to agree with you...or me, even if we were always right! That's what makes it fun.

Sure some people have itchy 'trigger' fingers when it comes to firing off responses but you have the necessary linguistic skills to rise above and continue the discussion without resorting to low blows. Reasoned debated is what makes the majority of your posts such a good read.

No way. I like about 60% of Trial and 100% of FTLOSM. Therefore to me Perry's second solo album is superior. To be honest there are some songs on Trail By Fire that I just can't stand listening to. It's a case of it may well be Journey but it's not the Journey I like. It's the same way I feel about the new Batman movies, as wildly popular as they are it's just not 'my' Batman anymore. And no, I don't favour the camp '60s version either!

To me 'One More' is amongst the worst Journey songs both lyrically and musically, I just can't stand the sound.

IMHO, Steve Perry best performance EVER is the intro to the song "Faithfully" that Journey performed in Ohio back in 1986 in the ROR tour... I was always impressed by his vocal abilities, but this single snippet really showed me what this man was (is?) capable of. Not only the technique, but also the pure feeling is simply AMAZING in this small piece! Check it out at a high volume in your speakers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYAJCueSVOM

Enjoy!

PS.- BTW, the "Patiently, 1980" one is probably my second best.

One More is one of the BEST Journey songs, both lyrically and musically, and I hit the repeat button on the car CD player every time TBF is playing ( Smitty's drums, Neal's solo, Perry's emoting). It can't always be about love, FF.
