I don't plan on seeing it- I would rather them have continued the Freddy vs. Jason or even Jason vs. Michael Myers. Jason is a bad mofo- still gives me the willys to be out in the woods by myself.

And they are rebooting Nightmare on Elm Street with a new cast.

Script was written following Freddy vs. Jason.
The three franchises/studios couldn't reach an agreement.
The script was later adapted into a limited run comic book - film won't be happening.

Will have to wait for DVD release sadly. My wife won't go and none of my friends are into spooky movies.

God I would love that! Wouldn't it be just hilarious to see Ash and Freddy trading smartass comments?

Speaking of Ash, have folks seen Sam Raimi's original prototype for Evil Dead?

Saw it tonight. Went alone because fuck-ass's had to be gay and back out for the 2nd time, so I went myself.

Jason is a bad mother fucker in this. He takes no shit, and is a complete wild man. Pretty cool new ways of killing that you've never seen before and is enjoyable to see something fresh out of a yesteryear horror character.

The story was alright. Followed the basics of any Friday the 13th or slasher movie. If you're a horror fan you'll enjoy it, but if you're looking for a fresh way to go about things, well you'll find out for yourself.

I give it a 8.5/10. Hollywood has to bring back guys like Michael Myers, Krueger, and Jason because todays horror movies make me want to laugh hysterically that's how BAD they really are.

BTW: Ash was the dude from Night of the Living Dead. He was the dude with the chainsaw for an arm, and glad they didn't follow up with a Freddy vs Jason Vs Ash.. would of been retarded.

I guess a Nightmare on Elm Street is being rebooted also, and I'm stoked! Freddy is the man and always will be. They can do a lot with Freddy in todays age.
Billy Bob Thorton is rumored to play him in the reboot.

I'm a huge fan of the Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween, Friday The 13th and Scream franchises. The first Nightmare On Elm Street might be my favorite of all of the movies from those franchises? Although the original Halloween and original Scream are right up there on my list too.

They should still have Robert Englund as Freddy.

I thought that Freddy vs Jason was pretty good. But yeah, it would be pretty stupid to have 3 of the characters in the same film. I'd be up for seeing a Jason vs Michael film.

Same here. I thought the Jason character was lame and was always the third favorite behind Freddy and Michael. This new re-vamp though made me like his character more.. adds more depth.

I enjoyed this re-make more-so than Myers'. I wasn't sold on Rob Zombie and even though it was cool, the ending didn't thrill me.

I grew up on Nightmare on Elm Street, and the original is, hands down, the greatest horror flick that was ever created, givin' it's time in age. Such genius behind the story. Unfortunately, they had to mess around with him and turn him into a joke after the sequel. If they would of just had stuck with the original plot, the franchise would of been the best ever, instead you can only say that about the original. With that said, even though Robert England is Freddy, I think it's right for the writers to move on considering the butchering of the character in the sequels, and that he is just too old for the part anymore. Change could add spark to Nightmare on Elm Street and revamp a legend.

I thought that A Nightmare On Elm Street part III was pretty good. IMO it's the second best of all of the Nightmare series.

Big fan of the series but this is was a let down. Some of the kills were down right funny. I saw it at a budget theater for 2.50 a ticket so it was worth it, but I would have been pissed to pay premium ticket price for this. While it was action packed, it wasn't that "scary". It was almost like a Jason / Rambo hybrid. I prefer my Jasons to be more evil, more scary, etc. This Jason was just a man with birth defects and mental issues. eh..

Wish they had made the sequel George Mihalka had in the works earlier this decade before remaking.

Would love to see the 1-armed man who escaped at the end return.

Friday was pretty scary, BUT I wanted to see the face, don't know if you were supposed to get a clear look at it when the burlap sack was ripped off by Bobby Joe in the barn, but I couldn't see it. Great line by that dude though when it came off: "That shit ain't right!!"

Also didn't care for the underground lair/tunnel thing had too much of TCM 2 feel, but other than that it was a damn scary movie with a freaky, creepy kick-ass Voorhees. When he's stalking that house in the woods and outs the lights...that's a "Friday."

Yes, he's something of a rugged frontiersman in this one.
Sets traps, digs trenches, builds outdoor lighting fixtures.
Not overly enthused, but it was decent.

Jason was a little too "smart". But he is truly intense!
I felt let down when Jason killed off the "dick". I thought I would be cheering.
THe first "victim" was a geek who likely never had sex before...that doesn't follow standard 80's slasher flick rules. But he was standing over the weed so you could cover it with the drug angle.
Call me a purist, But I don't like the fake tits. Great to have sensless nudity again, but 2 of them were unattractive fake, one was attractive fake, one was likely natural and the nicest.
Ending left it wide open...as it should. And with the movie raking in over 42M this weekend I would think it likely we will see another one.

This could just have easily been F13 part 12. There were visual references to original movies, but other than the recap with his mom, there was nothing that made this a remake. A good reboot, but how is that differnet than a good sequel?

I think 8 out of 10 is fair. It is enjoyable. It looks good. It was fun. But it was not great.

The days of "scary" are over my friend. These are just legends being reborn and fitting in to todays society.

It wasn't scary, but some parts were eerie. The thoughts of 6'8 demented looking dude wielding a hockey mask and machete running full speed at you has to give you the runs.

I thought the "surprise (LOL)" ending was too over-the-top where subtlety would've helped.

And I feel gipped for not getting to see his face, as I read up on the debagging scene before he gets the hockey mask and like me, most couldn't get a clear glimpse and in fact read an interview where Nipsel cut out all clear shots of Jason unmasked. Gotta have that payoff of seeing the horrible face to put reel teeth into the kills when you look back on it.

Not to mention a distinct lack of suspense...
What's the purpose of hitting the re-set button, when Jason is the same musclebound superhuman cartoon that necessitated the re-set in the first place?
Like any film franchise (Spiderman, Batman, James Bond) it's a safe bet Jason won't get taken down, but c'mon, still...
As other have mentioned, the first 20 minutes are almost better than the whole movie - and actually feel more like a proper Friday installment.

I will also cede your point about the mishapen winter squash titties.

I saw it on Friday. I actually thought it was pretty good. I think to expect a horror film to stand up to the classics of the late 70's early 80's (like the original Friday the 13th or Halloween) would be crazy. But I also hated the direction the last several Halloween movies have gone. It's almost making a joke out of what once was a great series of movies. But this one kind of lies somewhere in the middle, which is good enough for me. It wasn't that scary, because I think we've seen it all before. It all happened so fast too. Then of course there's the nudity. I am not complaining about it(trust me!), but it just seemed so forced to me. It's as if they said "well it's been 15 minutes, we better have this girl take her shirt off".

Not even the "chi chi chi ha ha ha" after the opening title....no suspense. Then the movie HAD to have obligatory 'scare moments'. Nothing but "surprise!"

Except Jason was probably the most interesting character in this. They DID update him by making him fast and fierce and creative. (Smart didn't work for me they added that as well.)

But there were characters to fight back and actually knock him around a little more. That was cool.

Oh, I don't see any reason why they can't. The only difficulty really is that audiences are far less sensitive so it takes "more" to freak 'em out.

Yeah, the waterskiing was really forced. At least the sex acts made sense to be naked.

I love horror films, being scared is a real turn on..go figure.

But, has been said before, it's all been done before and done better before.

Wishing and hoping for something new to scare me to death!

I read where the producers of the new Friday film said that they felt that it was very important to have a lot of nude scenes in the film. I'll gladly watch a hot topless chick water-skiing, no complaints here.

I love horror films, but I just can't get scared by them. The only time I remember ever jumping in my seat while watching one was the first time I watched Friday The 13th part II. It was during a scene at the beginning of the movie where the chick that survived from the original film was in her kitchen at home. There was a window open, and a cat jumped in through the window. That's the only time I ever jumped.

When I see the scene in Jason Takes Manhattan where the boxer is on the roof with Jason, and the boxer is punching Jason, I can't help but think to myself that Jason would be knocked on his ass if it was me punching him. Of course I would have had the intelligence to rip the damn Hockey mask off of Jason's head first.

I remember being home alone , talking on the phone and watching the first one on HBO.
Because I wasn't totally paying attention, when Jason came out of the water at the end when she is sleeping in the canoe, I completely freaked out.
