I just stumbled on a song and my fucking mind is blown!!! I've had this tune in my head since I was a little kid, and never knew what it was ...until now! I MUST tell this story...

I grew up with some pretty strict parents in my younger years, and was waiting at the dentist's office in my quaint little town in Canada for a check-up. I was a little boy (maybe 8-10 years old) trying to behave, and I just started to sing this cool new song that I'd heard somewhere (probably from my older brother) while waiting out in the lobby with my mother and a couple of other families. out of nowhere, my mother slaps me right across the face and shuts me right up! I'm sure at the time I was thinking "what the hell's wrong with this bitch...I'm just singing a damn song!"

I forgot all about this song until now. The lyrics just popped into my head, I typed it into youtube and HOLY SHIT THERE'S THAT SONG FROM 26, 27 YEARS AGO!!!

Here it is...The Monks- "Drugs In My Pocket"

That's one of Springfield's BEST songs, imo. It's definitely got the whole 80s sound going... the synth bass, the chorused guitars, gated drums, some weird vocal effects etc., but it sounds great. I love that mood on darker songs like this. Robert Lamm of Chicago has some solo stuff that uses this kind of sound to great effect too - check out "When The Rain Becomes" off of Life is Good In My Neighborhood if you don't have it already (pretty sure you're a big Chicago fan...)

Great tune. It really burns me that Lennon's solo career gets so many props. Sure, his good stuff was pretty good, but some of his shit SUCKED. I actually place Lennon dead last in the solo Beatle column. I like Paul, Ringo, and George in that order (just because Ringo has more songs I love... George can definitely hold his own matching his strong songs with Ringo's). Paul is in a class of his own for me.

I'm not a big country fan, but "East Bound And Down" is one of my favorite songs from my childhood, and it never gets old. I freaking LOVE that song.

Dan and I are both Beatles fans. I am a Paul, George, Ringo, and Lennon fan. And in that order. Lennon lost his mind with letting Yoko sing.  Check out this performance with Chuck Berry. Look at Chuck Berry's face when Yoko starts in: Priceless!
