Don't assume that those who were vociferously defending him on here were the only ones supporting him. Many of us deliberately chose not to get embroiled in the bunfight but supported him privately nonetheless, and he was well aware of that support. In fact Steve has an exceptional circle of friends and family who have certainly helped him through any difficult times. Such support can't make him the person he is, but will have allowed him to maintain his character against the insanity that existed here a couple of years ago.

blah blah blah who wants to say they support steve now or who supported him then or who never stopped supporting him, doesn't really matter we can look to the very applicable words of mr augeri himself..........

No joke, first porn I ever watched was with my cousins at the age of 5. NO JOKE! haha.

Anyway,

I was here for Tapegate, just before the '06 DL tour. I got kicked out because of it because I compared Augeri to JSS and explained why Augeri's voice was better for Journey. This was before I found out this place was hardcore, and then BOOM.. I found myself fighting the whole community led by Deano and TNC. Boy was that brutal.

Augeri STILL kicks ass and Arrival is STILL my favorite album of all of Journey.

Correct. I don't even remember who I was fighting with, whoever happened to send in a reply I went after. Drew banned me, and I e-mailed him apologizing and telling him I was instigated and it was all in fun and I meant no harm. He let me back in but I decided to hang low until before the Vegas trip back in March. I'm not that feisty in person.. unless it comes to muh Stillers  Before it's all said and done, I want to party with ALL OF YOU, just once. 8)

the tapegate days were ugly. my feelings were and remain that no one held a gun to anyone's head. i'm over it. i'm over journey. i have let it go as i realized there are more important things in my life to spend my energy on. not sure who folks are referring to when they call up the bashers and now supporters, but i know i am not one of them as i never bashed the man. my crime was guilt by association and that is nothing other than complete bs. i allowed the oversight of fraud and put it on the back burner because of my friendship with jeff. they are all pieces of dung in my book. at least augeri has the balls to imply his mistakes and has moved on. neal, jon, ross and deen should own up to it publically, not only in private, but i imagine papa azoff keeps those strings tight. rant over.

I became a Journey fan in 1998 when the Armageddon soundtrack came out. I was 15 then and had no idea a guy called Steve Perry even existed. *shrugs*

I couldn't believe the hate for Augeri even back then.

I remember buying a boot of the Osaka show in 1998, which was the first time I heard Augeri. My first Journey concert was with Augeri at the Oakdale in CT "way back" in 1998.

Food fight where everyone throws buns. As in 'hot cross'. Implying petty, childish, needlessly messy and ultimately futile and ineffective.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Don't you assume that this wasn't where you needed to be if you were defending him.
This was the epicenter. Clucking your tounges over at the womb of BT and going "that evil lying Dean" and "shame on Andrew" wasn't sticking up for him.

I seem to recall that I had some fairly robust exchanges with Dean right here, until he went off the deep end with his rants and I felt further argument was futile, but I've never ever called him a liar, or evil. Misguided, often. Needlessly agressive, always. Entertaining, usually. As for Andrew, he has always been one of the coolest guys on the internet in my book. He had very little choice but to let things go the way they did on his forum.

That was part of the problem, however. Everybody was getting so bitter and twisted, and entrenched in their views that normally sane, rational people resorted to insults, threats, name calling, and one dimensional obsessiveness about the issue. There was very little actual informed debate.

And Steve didn't need 'defending' from allegations on this forum, which by his own admission he wasn't reading anyway. What he needed was support to overcome a serious medical condition at the time. How would adding fuel to the fires raging here help that?

The personal insults were way beyond what should have been allowed, especially the adjectives and adverbs used along side Steve's and to a point the rest of the band's names. Regardless of one's view, calling them mf'er this and that or worse had no place even here. Odd how many people who poked him with a stick during tapegate suddenly were on his side when JSS's ousting went down.
Great to hear that Steve has come through it all and is in a good place now. I like Skyscraper very well, being a fan of Steve's singing and of the Zep-esque style of many of the songs, the guitar playing is great on these songs as well. Good to hear his voice is well enough to consider touring.

Yea, how convenient to bury him, then dig him up and use him as an instrument to bash away at Schon/Cain after that.

This is my problem. JSS was so accessible to fans that everyone who was pissed about tapes, suddenly found Neal and Jon innocent victims of S.A. and his conspiring crew members, who must have did this behind the rest of the band's back because they would never allow such treachery to their fanbase.
But yet when JSS was let go, now the tapes are just another reason to bash Neal and Jon. Now, it becomes how badly they treated Steve and how can anyone be a fan of such scumbags. Hypocrisy to the nth. To me the tape thing, while not good wasn't the end of the world like some made it out to be. However if you bash them now about this incident, just remember JSS knew what went down and still toured with them so if you have character issues with any member, you will have to include Mr. Soto too, if only through guilt by association. I don't have issues with him or any of them regarding this but you can't have your cake and eat it too, like some here would like.

Nope. I didn't start reading MR until the tail end of tapegate. Barely posted then and never once did I blame only SA. Always thought they were all to blame, I thought it was idiotic for the rest of them to pretend to not know it was going on. Just cuz SA doesn't do it for me vocally, I've never said anything derogatory about him at all.

Gunny, I'm not sure where you are coming from with the guilt by association thing.....but maybe explain it a bit? I am in a bit of a fog today. How would JSS be guilty for something they did prior to him joining. If he would have lipped, I would have blamed him too, right along with the band also. I'm definitely guilty of jumping right back on the Journey bandwagon (after many years), when JSS was fronting. Had never heard anything of his before (that I knew of), but saw somebody with Perry's soulful/passionate delivery again and was sold. And yes, sue me, most of it is about vocals for me. :P

Don't know if I agree with you regarding JSS and guilt by association....but that first part of your post was a homerun!!

Deb's going to pull a Friday the 13th on you in

The guilt by association would only come into play if you started bashing the band about tape gate now that JSS has gone. You didn't bash them for it so it has no bearing on your way of thinking. You can't call the band scum because of it now but say they were not scum during JSS's tenure with them. It just doesn't equate.
I'm not talking about you Deb, this is more for the lynch mob that burned Augeri in effigy but whole heartedly embraced Soto as if the band was just an innocent bystander to what happened.
