Oscars Highlights

Postby Behshad » Tue Feb 24, 2009 1:46 am

One of the highlights of the awards last nite was when Ben Stiller did a Joaquin Pheonix impression

Another great moment was when Ledger's family accepted the award on his behalf, which he rightfully deserved.Very touching indeed. RIP Heath.

Sean Penn's speech (quoted in BJG's sig) was one of the funniest moments of the night.

That was awesome. I laughed my ass off.

The Ben Stiller thing is great too.
I loved when he was just wandering aimlessly around the stage.

Good old Sean Penn. He hates drama as much as we do
Sorry. I don't speak 'drama'. Translate that to 'adult' and get back to me

Would've been funnier if Nat had to go off podium to get him back and he shouldn't have broken character at all. He held it pretty good for a while.

That was the highlight of the night in an otherwise boring show. Too many musicals, not enough clips of the movies themselves.

It was B O R I N G.

Is there a worst Oscar host than Hugh Jackman?

Should've let Rourke host, huh?

Maybe he could have got next year's Oscar for his hosting of this year's show....

Halle deserved it. Great performance. Denzel should have gotten it for a different performance and instead got it for this one. Typical of the Oscars. They do that all the time. Though Denzel is great in anything he does. One of my favorite actors.

Tilda Swinton got it for best supporting actress last year and in no way deserved it over Amy Ryan - Gone Baby Gone. Amy Ryan was absolutely, positively brilliant in it. I saw both performances, and one doesn't even compare to the other.

Denzel should've won for Hurricane instead of TD. Can't remember who was up against Halle but her role in Monster's Ball was no big deal to me, especially having to act with Puff Daddy, yuk.

Watching Penn's acceptance speech on yt, you can tell he was also not expecting a win. He hems and haws as he starts the speech and couldn't finish it without giving props to Rourke. And called out the Academy as commie homo lovers. At least he got that right.

I liked the different way they presented those awards too, with past winners saying things to each of them!! Very nice but what a way to get the emotions going right before one of them have to give a speach! Cool though 8)

Hugh was awesome, best host ever. If they chose somebody else, they would of just stood there bored us to tears, like the previous hosts. Hugh Jackman nailed it and then some, basically put the rest of the Hollywood leading men to shame. In fact the ratings were up something like 16% more than ever, across America. Is there anything he can't do? 8)

Yes, he can't tell a joke without laughing at his own punchline when he's drunk, apparently.

V, I'm with you. LOVED Jackman. But as much as I loved the opening number ( telling Kate Winslet he's "swim though a sea of excrement" to be with her? Priceless!) I hated the thing with Beyonce (MUST they drag her out at every public event???) and the High Scool Musical kiddies. I also really dug the way the nominees were "honored" by previous winners. I think it also surprised the nominees (at least for the first major award) cause they really looked stunned by it. I don't know if I'd wanna see it that way every year, but it was cool for this one.

btw- Rourke was ROBBED!!!
