Shock! Revelation song gets played on Long Island!

Postby 4ever4Steve » Sun Feb 22, 2009 5:05 pm

:D
I couldn't believe it, but after fruitlessly calling all the classic rock staions since last JUne to give the new album a spin, I finally gave up. with the exception of AC stations...as far as classic rock radio was concerned, Steve Perry never left.
Imagine my shock, while shopping in a grocery store{ ironically named "Best Yet"}, to hear the piped in station talk about Journey, then announce it was playing "their new single". "Where Did I Lose Your Love"!
This was today, Feb.21st!!
This is really a big deal, because NO ONE would play any new Journey on Long Island since Perry took a powder.

Congrats J-boys...this is like finding the "Holy Grail" to bust thru Long Island's locked up and sealed in cement playlists on classic rock radio!

WOW! I am from Long Island too, and I remember, believe it or not, being in a Best Yet and hearing After All These Years playing. They must love new Journey in that store!

They played WDILYL on Sirius Canada Channel 002 two days ago. I'm not sure what the channel lineups are in the US, but here Ch.002 is kind of a soft rock mix of the 70s through the present day and they play Perry-era Journey. It was quite a nice surprise to hear WDILYL!

:?: So does anyone know for sure if WDILYL was officially released as a single? You certainly can't rely on Journey's (so called) official site for updated information.

Given the right promotion, I think this song could do fairly well, it's got some catchy hooks. Definitely one of my favorites on Revelation.

What does releasing a song as a single mean today?
Just curious.

Usually means the video gets played on music TV stations, released on Itunes, then you wait to see if it stikes a chord with the general public. Singles mean next to nothing today unless you are in your 20's and signed to Sony.
Knowing Journey's management there will be no video, no promotion.. Just a couple of DJ's breaking the news to the few causual fans that are oblivious to Steve Perry not being in Journey anymore. It is so frustrating that Journey could have had a massive hit with AATY and sat back doing nothing! They could have done a TV promotion tour, released a proper video (not the Las vegas low video quality version) and push it down everybody's throat like Katy Perry does.. but no, we have to listen to that crap instead! GET YOUR FINGERS OUT OF YOUR ASSES!!!!

Yesterday I was in the Kukje Korean supermarket in Daly City with my wife and they were playing Journey classic Faithfully over the p/a in the store. I had to stop and listen closely, it was Arnel's voice singing for sure. Even though I prefer to leave the classic Journey tunes to be sung by SP, still I was very happy to hearing AP. I can tell it was AP because in the lower notes of the classic Journey songs, he's got a young man's voice, where as SP has an older man's voice. However, in the very high notes, the two are virtually the same, even I can't tell most of the time. I have to listen for the song at the lower notes before I can tell if it's AP or SP. SP for sure has more torque in the lower notes and that's where the difference can be heard.

So yeah, hearing AP over the radio whether it be new or classic Journey is always a great treat.

When you don't make your music available through itunes or Amazon, this is what you get. The album has been out over 8 months and still not a million copies sold. Who the hell downloads from Walmart when you have one click access with itunes and Amazon?

It doesn't make sense to play the re-records as people will go to itunes and download Sony's version like they did with DSB after the Super Bowl which doesn't benefit Arnel at all. If re-records get played you still have licensing issues and royalty problems as Stations would be carrying the same song from the same artist with two different labels. Most stations have their songs connected to itunes for instant download anyway, something you cant do with the re-records.

Actually, another possibility is the store may have just been playing disk one of the Revelation album over their in-store sound equipment. But yeah, I wish more Journey/AP material was being played overall.

I've heard AATY quite a bit in Cleveland. NWA was ALL OVER 98.5 WNCX, our classic rock syndicate, for the whole summer. Probably hasn't been spun once since the September show  but still, pretty good. More play than Arrival ever got :(. Poor Arrival. It'd definitely be neat to see Rev make one last surge. Once the album hits a year, there's no chance, imo.

Which is odd, because when Faithfully was recorded, SP was younger than AP is now.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

This is not the first time I have heard about a 'new single' from "Revelation". Makes me scratch my head why the band would take their official site offline now, if this is true...

They keep blasting AATY in one of the new Shopping malls here in Kansas City North (open area type mall). I have been to the mall twice in probably 3 months and heard the song on both times.

Let's be realistic though. They are not blasting AATY. They are playing a piped in satellite channel that just happens to have AATY in their current song rotation.

AATY never cracked the hot 100. It's done and Revelation is done. This isn't 1985 when Whitney's album slowly climbed the charts and hit # 1 a year later. Why release singles if you can't download them from Itunes or Amazon anyway.

Not in voice years. SP had probably outsang AP 2 times over in live performances from 78-82
