Worthless Ballads (my own that is!)

Postby G.I.Jim » Tue Feb 17, 2009 10:44 pm

Man... I write a lot of songs, and although I do have some up-tempo rockers, a LOT of ballads come out of these fingers! :( I can't even count how many I've written. I wrote this one last year and was trying to go with a "Chicago" type sound (although I never added the horns), but I could never write lyrics or a melody for it. This is just one of countless songs hanging out in limbo never to be used.

I don't know why I'm sharing all of this with you, but I guess I figured maybe some of you would like to hear it. I hope you like it!

I love it! I think it's beautiful as it is..it speaks without need for words. Thanks, Jim! I'll play it again when I'm painting today. :)

Stellar stuff, as usual, my friend. Beautiful.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night

Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

Thank you (and Jana and Blueskies!) Just one of my songs sitting around that isn't going to be worked into anything else...I figured I'd post it for anyone who'd be interested. I'm glad you liked it, and I wish I could have ever come up with the lyrics for the damn thing. Oh well...On to the next one!

Doesn't need them, it's great without lyrics.
..and I did use it as inspiration for a painting I started today, so thanks again. 8)

Thanks man,

I really appreciate it. Maybe someday I'll try to work it into a finished song, but as of now...I've given up on this one!

Great stuff Jim. Kinda reminds me of Eve by Dream Theater: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCu21m-ZH28

It needs lyrics or a soaring guitar solo for sure!

Me either. I made a couple copies to disk and have played it many times when I finished working on a painting that it inspired, which I titled Tranquility. I love to work with instrumentals like this playing.

I really enjoyed that - thanks Jim! It does have a Chicago sound, but in the first few bars I could imagine vocals by
Lionel Richie or James Ingram.

Man, it took me thirty minutes to even get my head through the door of my music room... and that was before I even turned the computer on. I guess I'm stuck in here for the entire day now. Thanks a LOT!   I really do appreciate all of the compliments people. Anyone who wants to take a stab at vocals (or guitars Larry), help yourselves. This song is probably going to be shelved unless someone else can do something with it.

I should post some of my other songs like this...I'll post something within the next day or so. I'll have to go through my stuff and dig one out. Until I started writing lyrics about 6 years ago, ALL of my songs were like this.

Anyway, I'm glad some of you are enjoying it. I'll post more soon. Thanks!

Here you go Blueskies, as promised! I'm sure it's pretty obvious to most here what I was listening to when I recorded this song. It starts out okay, then just gets bland and boring...it never really goes anywhere. This one's in the old shit pile!
