Joe - Best unreleased track?

Postby Idiosyncrasy » Sat Feb 21, 2009 12:32 am

So Joe...

Being an insider, what's the greatest Survivor and/or Jim Peterik track that has never been released to the public (not including FMS demos)?

Did you ever hear any unreleased stuff from the pre-Jamo era when Dave was with the band?

How about leftover tracks that didn't quite make the albums but have never re-surfaced either?

Have you ever heard Wires and Wood (unreleased track Jim wrote with Mick Jones for Meat Loaf) or One Wheeled Rescue / Aces and Eights? And then there's all that stuff from the 90s - Angeline, Round and Round, Overload, Anymore, All Over You, So Long, I Call Your Mama, Hold On, Loving You Blue...

I know this is an exercise in masochism, but it gave me a kick to hear about the songs they demoed for Crossroads Moment! :-D

Dude...I sang on alot of JP's stuff and demos for years there, but you know way too much about that stuff!!!!....I did a demo called "Save Me" which was a heavy tune...I will go through some of my old CD's of demo stuff....even though I hate doing that..I was so new to singing, and I did not have the control I do now, so the parts were a bit loose.....

My original lead vocal version to "Too Miss Somebody" from World Stage 1....I sang on the final tune with Dennis Deyoung as well, I am all over the backgrounds and I have some step outs at the end of the tune....some of my favorite moments in the studio working with Dennis...and to hear one of your idols praise your work is humbling beyond belief.....he is a misunderstood guy, really a gem....

Oh yea...."That's Why God Made The Radio".....my first thing I ever sang on....it was a demo for the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson....written by JP and Joe Thomas.....that song I will say was killer.....

The best unreleased has GOT to be "Someone Else's Sleepless Night"

Most of us have heard the illegal version so it doesn't seem obscure but what an amazing tune, the Bickler/Sullivan harmony into the same mic during the chorus is sensational...

I know Frankie has promised all new music for the next record but he said that about Reach too and this song MUST be redone and given proper release next album. Curious to see how it holds up to the Dave version.
"I love almost everybody."---Rocky Balboa 1990
"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001

I love that tune as well....but the strength of the new material is mind boggling.....I was hard on Reach, and always hard on their material.....but this stuff is f'n amazing.....the flow of CITG, with the balls and edge of THTS....

Stellar.....

Aside from the FMS demos (which I got courtesy of MR-X), what else is floating around?

I SO wish those recordings were released. It had such a classic Survivor feel.

You just made my day with that comment :!: :!: :!: :D

Those are my two favorite Survivor albums of all time.

I was very much hoping that they would be going in that hard & heavy direction on the new album.

Ah, we're the opposite. Although very good albums (I've warmed up to THTS after a harsh first review), I would still rate those as the bottom 2 for me. But, still very good and more than acceptable especially as new material goes. Actually, CITG is very good there is just a couple of ehh songs in the middle that slows it down for me.

"What Do You Really Think" rates as one of my least favorite Survivor songs. It's not that I don't like it, because I do. But it's one of their least interesting songs, IMO.
