They could do it, no question.
Technically, they could...
But they wouldn't have made such a big deal of going back to the "legacy sound" with Arnel if they were going to shift to a heavier, more progressive direction.

Weird.
Chain Reaction, Keep On Runnin, Where Were You, Wheel, Line of Fire, Sep Ways, Troubled Child, Rubicon, Out of Harm's Way, Winds of March, and some old classics like Kohoutek, Of a Lifetime, Topaz etc.
Plenty of songs, really. Give Neal more face time, much of the crowd will love it, guaranteed.
You're absolutely right. Neal is probably lovin' this. People and Places would be a nice retro touch, even though not hard rock.

Add in World Gone Wild, Hustler, Karma, Self Defencse, State of Grace, The Time, One More, Can't Tame the Lion, Message of Love............. Yea they could definitely throw together a rockin set. Though if this kind of set ever happened, which I don't believe it will, I would have to sell my soul to be there.

They seem to be doing alright at being a Journey tribute band, though. Why switch gears now?

I really dig them, good bluesy rock and the chick can SANG! Been trying to get to one of their shows for a while but it just doesn't seem to work out for me...
jrnyman28 wrote:As stated, these festivals COULD give Journey room to rock hard, change direction a little and expand their fan base. All of that needs to happen.....but none of it will.

They're not a tribute band.

You ain't kiddin. She's not bad looking either.
Gunbot wrote:It's not going to happen though.
If this was their plan they would have kept Jeff.
I think they're trying to push their image as an international band by taking these gigs all over the world. Unfortunately, it just makes them look a little lost. Walmart doesn't need them any more. Sony will probably tell them to get bent after doing the re-records. Who is going to distribute Journey's next album?Maybe this is the reason they are trying to create awareness in Europe. Maybe they will try to hook up with a big label over there in the near future.

They already have a relationship with the Frontiers label.
jrnyman28 wrote:Sadly, the opportunity for Journey to 'not become a nostalgia band' and to 'rock harder' changing direction has long passed. Journey is too concerned about losing their casual fanbase because they equal asses in seats on tour. If it were just about the music for Journey they would have slowly altered their setlist starting with the Arrival tour. By now they would be playing a 50/50 or even 40/60 split of hits/new to their core fans. But Journey doesn't care about the core fans....

Play different sets depending on where there are.
Do Euro festivals as a solid hard rock band.
Do America as the good old GH band.
Make and sell as many black tshirts as they possibly can.
I think they could take on different continental personas.
If nothing else, they could dust off 'State of Grace' as the Euro opener.
It's heavy and a little dark. Could fit in nicely for these fests.

Yep. He thought he was done with Open Arms when the Arrival Tour came around but the backlash was apparantly bad enough for him to reconsider...

Along these lines, maybe they keep AP for America & Asia, and get JSS for Europe?
They could go darker, heavier, and maybe do a little Soul Sirkus.
There might be some Euro-legs to Euro-Journey, no?
I mean, who says the same old constant band has to be the same old constant band?
Mix it up a little...depending on the audience.
