Front Page-New Music from VH

Postby jrnyman28 » Wed Feb 04, 2009 5:01 am

I am excited to think there might actually be new music from the guys. But what surprised me is the working arrangement. They will call DLR up and see 'if he wants to sing'. At least Eddie, Alex and Wolfie are setting time aside to 'work'.

There will never be another Van Halen album.

VH and Roth will never be able to creatively get their shit together on the same page....doing a tour is one thing...if you saw their concert rider, they kept Dave's dressing room as far as possible from the rest of the band, they just would meet up for 2 hours every night to play old songs...it was a job. Eddie might have new music, but he'd either have to get a new singer (which is unlikely at this point in VH's career) or put it out as a solo album.

Maaaaaaybe they could work out some unusual working arrangement that would minimize the interaction between Dave and Eddie in the studio (the way the new Motley album was recorded), but given that Dave is much more a part of the creative process than Vince Neil, I doubt that would lend itself to a particularly organic, inspired album. I'd rather they just let it rest, personally. VH3 and the new songs from '04 seem to indicate Eddie is out of creative juices as far as the Van Halen sound goes.

I thought Van Halen 3 was a good album for the most part. A couple of duds but mostly good.

As a musician, I appreciate a lot of elements of VH3 that most probably didn't...it has some of Eddie's most intricate and creative guitar work and Cherone was easily the best lyricist the band ever had from a poetic standpoint.

But it didn't make you feel good, and the songs weren't catchy, which is why it failed as a Van Halen album. I don't think people would've minded Gary as vocalist if the songs had been as good or memorable as the stuff on 5150 or FUCK. (actually, Balance is my favorite VH album, but that's another topic).

Like I said, Eddie may not have lost the ability to write interesting music, but he hasn't shown any capacity of being able to write the kind of music that could live up to the VH legacy and meet fan expectations since "Me Wise Magic."

There will be a new album.

Diamond Dave cares about his legacy, too. He won't let anything stand in the way of one more trip to the top.

At this point, the VH brothers need Dave as much as he needs them.

Not really, they could plug Sammy back in and have a huge tour, too.

Dude, they already tried that a few years back.

Look at the numbers - they were selling maybe six or seven thousand seats per show. They blew out the house on the first night of the tour, in Charlotte, in September of 2007, in front of over 20,000 people.

Dave puts the fannies in the seats. Besides, Sammy is in artistic retirement - his last two albums were duds. I love the guy, but, geez...

The 04 tour was putting up huge numbers w/ Sammy in the key big cities.
EVERYone struggles to sell outside of Cali, Chicago, Detroit, DC, Boston, NY, Philly, Miami and Dallas.

Van Halen's monsterous with Dave OR Sammy...

Everything was fine until Francis Sullivan pulled out of the VH project...then it all turned to shit.

Talk is strictly music and Frankie mods and comes down swift and sure on ANYthing else, though

I've been out of commission for a while, too, boss.

So, in other words, Kevin Sullivan - a.k.a. Slander - is raining down proverbial Norris roundhouse kicks to the midsection when anyone questions Francis' intentions?

Does anybody really care what EDVH does these days.
The guy is almost a bigger fraud than gene simmons.
He has conned everybody including me.
Firstly the dlr issue, than the b/s about sammy hagar, then he spoke of how gary cherone was his soulmate and if it didnt work out from there on it was going to be the end of van halen.Anybody remember that?
He then got Sammy back and went on tour completely drunk. He conned everybody one more time and people came out and saw these guys.
He also stated back in 98 that he wasnt going to be like KISS and rip everybody off and do a reunion tour.
Well he has................TWICE.
The guy has been telling us for 12 years that he has a tonne of music but all he has released was a failure in VH 3(which i didnt think was that bad) and 2 GREATEST HITS CDS while Hagar has released at least 6 albums and counting and Eddie reckons hes in it for the music...PFFFT
Now he thinks hes relevant and states that maybe just maybe Vh might release another cd.
Screw off Eddie you drunk jerk-off.You might con your American fans here and there but u aint conning anybody else.
Take a leaf out of Springsteen or Bon Jovi that go out on tour and give it everything for 2hrs30-3hrs every night, some of you might not like there music but they give there fans what they want.
The last time i saw Jovi in sydney, they played for 2hrs 45 mins and the crowd didnt sit down once, while Eddie and co stick with the same bland b/s that went out in the 80's,guitar solo, bass solo and drum solo. They couldnt even be bothered to changing the set list.
I am not a van halen basher as you can see by my name on here i was once the biggest vh fan on planet earth, but im sick and tired of these old farts and people like Kiss that think its cool to take people for a ride and play for under 2 hrs.
People should boycott these tours.

They actually played 2 1/2 hours the first show in Charlotte, NC.

They blew the doors off the place...and I've seen Aerosmith, the Boss, AND Bon Jovi...and the energy from those bands didn't come close to matching Van Halen's. So, your personal vendetta against Eddie aside, you have no fucking idea what you're talking about.

And that is the key. The audience has been accepting of this practice. Why do we have so many "nostalgia" tours? Because the audience no longer 'wants' new music, wants spontineity, wants passion...they want memories instead of making new ones. Really, it's the audiences fault for always going to get a beer when something new or different is played...

You go ahead and boycott 'em. Meanwhile, I'll be living it up watching them tear up the stage. Have fun at the Postal Service show.

Whats with the insult you fucking prick?
I have no idea?Youve been fooled by your mate Eddie you tosser.
If you turned up at your work place DRUNK youd be sacked you moron. But instead you pay over 100 buks to see your idol pissed off his brain trying to play eruption one more time.Give me a break. Its not even van halen, wheres michael anthony?
Dont even try to compare van halen to springsteen you idiot.Springsteen and the estreet band will go down as one of the all time greats,Where as van halen has always been a soap opera.
Dont get me wrong i have all the vh cds but edvh is just a con.

Sorry but i disgree with you.
Springsteen and Bon Jovi had new cds out and those 2 were the top selling tours of 07-8,both racking in 207-208 million dollars.
Kiss in other words who have been very successful in Australia couldnt sell out 10000 seaters and have now gone to Europe to boost ticket sales.
They will also be coming out with a new cd in 2009.
So these nostalgic tours might be good for a one off but they wont last.
Plus i dont really want to pay 100 buks to see some guy drunk off his head trying to play eruption.

HAHAHAHA......Your hilarious.
When i get to the states ill be watching Bruce in front of 80000 at giants playing for 3 hrs non stop while youll be watching a wig wearing 50 year old and a pissed guitar player who will be wasting concert time with a 15 minute guitar solo and a 10 minute drum solo.
Gee take that away from your 2 hrs and your left with abt 90 mins.
Good luck BIRDBRAIN

Your reaction is completely disproportionate, given the context of the dissemination of these opinions, and the timbre of this particular exchange.

Take two and call me in the morning. EVERYONE I know who went to the Charlotte show thought it was one of the best concerts they'd ever seen.
