One thing that boggles is if a band's good enough to tribute Journey, why not create a new band with a Journey sound and start making new music?
Who want s to hear 80s "new music" .I do , but who else would buy it, and what radio station or sirrus bullshit would even play it.Melodic rock is doomed. You will only hear new shit while most people are takin a piss or standin in line for a big ass can of beer

The tide may change back again. Look what happened to grunge. Gone baby gone. New bands are succeeding on melodic and punk type music. Coldplay, Killers, The Hives etc.
I sure hope it does,i listen to news,or classical music. All the classic rock stations play fuckin Old time Rock and Roll, and some shitty Eagles every 45 minutes

Dude,

I had a listen. Just so you know, I'm not a big fan of TBF. As a matter of fact, I think it sucked. And I've not been impressed by most singers doing this shit. However, your voice is damn good dude. I'm impressed.

I'm not sure who's parents would name them E, I'm sure you've struggled with that.

Now get out there and sing some shit off of Evolution.

I agree with you Steve. This type of music will NEVER make it to the radio. With my recording project, I just look at it as me playing and recording what I want to hear. I guess I'm selfish about it, but I'm not trying to please anyone but myself. There's not very much money in an 80's sounding album at all (unless you're a popular band FROM the 80's).

I don't know if they've looked into the money aspect of it, but a lot of times you just make enough (if you're lucky) to pay off the studio and disk production costs. That's all I'm looking to get out of my own stuff anyway. It's also just a hobby to me, so I'm not relying on it to make me money. They would make money at it if they were out doing shows and promoting the music (which I'm not). I wish you guys the best!

Great voice on the recordings. Right tone good players.. One thing.. Very little vibrato. It is a Perry trademark and that is the only critique I have.. Otherwise, right on.. Some very Perry moments and some nice ad-libs.

So Jim, if you don't know anything about the new lineup, how did you come upon your opinion of the new guitarist? (His name is Kenny Seay, by the way.) Have you been to one of their shows? :?:

FWIW, I have heard the new lineup many times, and Kenny nails ALL of Schon's signature chops. But they also give him a lot of room to stretch out and show what he can do on his own, and that's where the shoe comes in.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement...we are headed back into the studio next week and I will pay a bit more attention to the virbrato. I want to make it as great of a show as possible for all of us out there that love the Steve Perry sound. Once again I am just grateful to have the chance to sing Journey tunes for two hours and make a living doing it! I hope to meet you guys when we hit the road!

Wow, lots of good singers out there possessing the "Perry sound." Don't know much in way of technical aspects of music ... do know that it's good when I hear it. Good luck to you, and keep us informed of your work.

Reality check. Sorry...the vocal is not that good. It sounds a bit weak and I'm concerned how it might sound live. The lack of vibrato is a big turn off and makes the lead vocalist sound very amateurish. I would suggest taking a year off, getting some vocal lessons and really fine tune the lead vocal. Going on tour now will just cement the lack of vibrato forever. There's some possibilties here, but it sounds rushed.

Thank you for your insight. I knew when posting this I would get some good comments and some not so favorable comments. The virbrato thing is the one comment that I have heard more than once. So when I go into the studio the next. Time I will hit it a little harder. I sing at least 3 hours a day so I'm not concerned about how it will sound live. I have been told that I sing better than that now so I know there is a future. I will be taking those recordings down soon and replacing them with newer ones soon because I did rush through the vocals we we were running out of time and money. With only 90 minutes left I knock out 9 journey songs with very little punch in. So with that being said I know it's not perfect.

But also thank you for your advice but the tour will go on! I'm not gonna back away from

I came to that opinion when there was a link posted in here about him playing with a shoe. I don't have anything against him or any of the new guys...I really don't know them or anything about them. They might be awesome guys...no clue.

And I'm also not saying he's a bad guitarist! He sounds very good. My only beef is that if you're in a "tribute" band, you should get as close to the original bands style and sound as possible. That's just my personal opinion. Otherwise, I think they go from being a tribute band, to being a cover band. That's all.

And no, I've never seen the new band (except for Greg that is), and I'm sure I never will. I'm glad that many of you get out to see the shows though, as Jeremey's got some mouths to feed. He does put on a good show for 10 bucks!

Don't listen to the negative comments. I think you have a great voice for Journey. You could use a little training, but you have a Perry-ish quality to your voice. Much more than the current Journey singer does. You guys gonna play the mid-Atlantic?

Oh yeah we will be there! And yeah I am in serious training...I get better everyday and I am thankful for all of the comments, they let me know what I got to do to get it right and what I am doing that is working. I am so lucky to be able to sing these great songs for fans that love them so much...I just want to honor what Steve Perry and Journey did. Today I had a marathon Practice session where we went at it for 7 hours...I am getting whipped into shape. I can't wait to share this band with all the people that love Journey...I promise we will do a good job!

 Take care of them pipes man! Drilling/practice is great. I remember when I had a good group of people to play with, my chops went up so quick. We'd just sit there and play for hours on end. Great times. Wish I had some decent people to play with any more :(

I know what you mean I all but gave up on being in a band because of the BS that you need to put up with. I am so grateful to have the four guys that I am working with, they are the best. We did Separate Ways today and I almost fell down it sounded so good...Man it felt like I was hanging out with Journey...Crazy...I never thought in a million years I'd be where I am.

Thanks for your comments..I love it!

Thanks so much for that awesome comment...Thank you. I have been listening to Steve "the voice" Perry for 27 years now and I remember at 11 years old dreaming that one day I would get the chance to sing those songs. I am grateful to be able do just that every weekend. I also grew up in a home where motown and the STAX soul sound was always playing...oh and then there is Mr Soul....Mr Sam Cooke...Yeah I love that stuff!
