Come on Frank, is it your 1st day here !? (feels like it anyway since you havent posted in a LONG time,,,)

You know how this board works..... There is always a constant need here to pick on someone, just happens that Journey is the easiest target, because of the rich history and their business decisions in the past.

You cant honestly tell me that you didnt expect any kind of reaction from this site, specially the kind that lead into this thread's existence?

Things are slow around here, so people choose ANYTHING they can talk about to liven things up and entertain eachother.... Youve seen members of the band getting attacked left & right, so it surprises you that people would make fun of a website?? Did you forget about BT ?

Either you have forgotten about how MR works, since youve been gone for a while , or maybe *you* actually are the one helping Neal's future ex-wife with this new site, or you simply gave your MR account info to Neal :)

Either way,,, read your first sentence,,,,Laughable? maybe, entertaining? of course. Journey and their decisions have always been the formula for fun and entertainment here .

Welcome back 8)

I can't stand to visit the site again until someone tells me that the errors in grammar, construction, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc are gone. The band really needs to hire a professional proofreader and a copy editor to clean everything up. I know several damn good proofreaders and copy editors who I would be happy to recommend!

Behshad, all good points all around. You know...I've been away long enough that I sorta forget the normal course of action here (and the various other websites on Journey's webring of death...)

As for helping Lori Carpenter on the site, my consulting fees are quite modest. I could put a few shots into her mouth and we could call it even. I haven't gotten a call yet, however. I suspect she's got a mouthful dealing with the whole band...

That's actually not true. They were very good to me back in the day, both as a fan and later as an employee. They (with Herbie) pretty much invented the concept of how to run a great fan club. There was interaction between the fans & band members; they held great seats at shows for their fan club members and didn't charge scalper prices. We did a fan club newsletter every month. The band members invited us into their homes and lives. We had so much fun. It takes a great deal of commitment from the artist to have a fan club be satisfying to the fans. And it's not cheap, either.

As for the music, I will never forget the feeling of being at a concert, the lights are down, and you hear the first few notes signaling the band was about to blast out on stage. I still get chills thinking about it. For me, there was no one better live than the Journey that I saw.

So things have changed now. We're all older and maybe they feel they have given enough and are content to be on cruise control now. I can't say I'm a fan of the new web site but it's adequate, I guess. As a singer and front man for Journey, Arnel just doesn't do a thing for me. So? He apparently makes many others very happy so why should that bother me? It doesn't.

I can only imagine how neat it would have been back then to be a part of it all...even as a fan. Sadly, I was a fan but didn't know diddlysquat about fan clubs & all. :(

I'm amazed that a redesign of the band's website, a change of web personnel or the way with which the site is moderated raises such contention.

Hell, it even happened to me. Stupid c*ntrags with nothing better to do than dry hump their cats and propose hair-brained theories as to why I no longer worked on the site....It really eclipses any amount of bile me or anyone else on Journey's death ring of websites has ever done.

Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is here. The band wants to maintain full control of their website and how people interact on it. It's their choice. Personally, if I were an artist and I threw out a few douchebags or better yet, sandbagged a few worthy folks as well...the last thing I'd want are fans or ex-fans (that haven't bought a record of mine in 8 years) trying to dredge up past history and make me look bad. I'd tell em to fuck off and kick their asses off the site too....and there'd probably be a few dozen sites where they can talk shit about me and put my face onto Napoleon's body. whatever...lol

Let the band fully control the site the way they want...if you don't like it, deal. But to stretch a thread out over here, waste good Andrew's bandwidth on all this crap...is, well, a waste of time, money, energy, feces and anything else worthy to those that have posted in it.

Who cares....You may like, love or hate these people with all of your expendable energy....but to direct it at their fucking website? holy crap...this is silly.

Neal got his future ex-wife to do the site....big fucking deal. He probably saved some money on the deal. Hell, I *know* how fucking cheap they can be when it comes to paying for their websites.....Neal probably thought, "I could pay CJ XXX dollars for this, or I can shoot a few loads into Carpenter's mouth"...hmmm....I'm not sure I'd do any different as Neal.

He should have just went with Geico....

couldn't agree with this more. I really do think the band, at this point, views this as a means to an end. It's not about doing right by the fans, it's simply about sustaining this as long as possible, before it's not possible any more.

They dont view this as a legacy to be protected like the fans do or Steve Perry did (before he was given the spanish archer). Whether Steve still feels that way is anyone's guess and I suspect, you Lora, know better than anyone (btw, that wasn't an invitation for you to reveal anything, dont feel compelled)...

regardless, I really do feel that the current members of this band are 100% business. This is just a mad rush to capture a certain audience and as much profit from it, before things dry up. It certainly doesn't work for the people who have been through the mill with this band....and I dont think they care....

Now, having said that, I think such an attitude is short sighted....but again, I dont think any of them have long term goals.....just thinking out loud here....

I'm with both of you on this. I wasn't pulled in by the lastest singer change, or album either. Not to take anything away from Arnel, or from Journey's latest effort, it just didn't strike me the same way as the Journey I grew up with. The magic isn't there. Its just a band doing a job, and that's fine if its going to sell some tickets. I saw the show, and it was decent, and I had fun. But that's about it. There's no second coming, or any of that.

Spanish Archer is a slang term that means: To dismiss, to sack. A pun on the 'Spanish archer' being called El Bow, thus 'give someone the elbow' (dismiss someone). I've only heard that expression a few times in my life. Pretty funny. And truer words were never spoken regarding SP's wanting to protect the legacy he had with the band.

You ain't just whistling "Dixie Highway" there, ma'am. Its sad to me the band are about the only ones who don't hold their history dear to them. AAnd no one can ever have me believe different, not after those horrible rerecords. That was just a smack in the face to all of us, especially Perry, in my opinion.

Well, legacy schmegacy, I guess. I can understand the band wanting to continue working and move forward, but, it seems they're trying eat their cake and have it too. On the one hand, in the name of moving forward, it appears they are trying to minimize Perry's contributions, while on the other hand, trading on the very contributions they're trying to minimize. I don't know if there is, or was, a neat and tidey way to "move forward" without trashing the legacy. The simple fact of the matter is the ghost of SMFP is everywhere, and it's the 800 lb. gorilla in the corner (if I may mix metaphors).

I went into the archived photos section and there are almost 200 pics that include Perry and a few dozen Augeri ones. They were uploaded on the 10th so not by fans. Some of the pictures, I had never seen before.

meaning, he got the 'elbow'

Not quite what I meant, lol. I was referring to the claim that Steve Perry cared about the legacy any more than these guys did. Seems to me that the only time he wanted the legacy to be protected is when they decided to move on without him.

But that's just my opinion and I don't want to derail the thread.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'
