He did take the time to help remaster the catalog for Sony/BMG and see over the work being done to get the Houston DVD released, since the band couldn't be arsed with it.
Seeing Cain's production skills on disc two of Revelation, I'm glad Perry has been the one doing the cleanups on the older albums. And everyone in the group has benefited from his work on those. They still sell quite well and are in constant reprint, unlike the band's current work which Walmart has already lost money on, just using it to get in-store traffic increased which was accomplished and now the album is just languishing away as Walmart goes after the next artist.

But I will agree Cain needs to stay the fuck away from the soundboard. But I'd also point out that they probably couldn't be arsed with it because they were... out working and touring. Two concepts that Perry hasn't understood in a long time.

I'm also glad Perry did the remastering. He definitely has an ear for perfection. Another thing to think about though, is that Perry's probably the only one who had the time to do it. The rest of the band was too busy out touring and being a working rockband. If I recall, Perry spent either weeks or maybe even months working on them. That's too long for anyone in Journey to be away. My two cents...carry on.

There was interaction between the fans & band members; they held great seats at shows for their fan club members and didn't charge scalper prices. We did a fan club newsletter every month. The band members invited us into their homes and lives. We had so much fun. It takes a great deal of commitment from the artist to have a fan club be satisfying to the fans. And it's not cheap, either.

I've never understood why they don't have an official fan club anymore. They could probably get a good amount of money for an annual fee (though the non-drones would have to see some perks delivered)

I think Steve Perry always had a vested interest in protecting the legacy - at least the music. He was the one who fought against allowing the use of Journey songs for cheap commercials and such. I see commercials on TV that have used other artist's songs and he was right.

This has been a laugable thread to read....

I'm amazed that a redesign of the band's website, a change of web personnel or the way with which the site is moderated raises such contention.

Hell, it even happened to me. Stupid c*ntrags with nothing better to do than dry hump their cats and propose hair-brained theories as to why I no longer worked on the site....It really eclipses any amount of bile me or anyone else on Journey's death ring of websites has ever done.

Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is here. The band wants to maintain full control of their website and how people interact on it. It's their choice. Personally, if I were an artist and I threw out a few douchebags or better yet, sandbagged a few worthy folks as well...the last thing I'd want are fans or ex-fans (that haven't bought a record of mine in 8 years) trying to dredge up past history and make me look bad. I'd tell em to fuck off and kick their asses off the site too....and there'd probably be a few dozen sites where they can talk shit about me and put my face onto Napoleon's body. whatever...lol

Let the band fully control the site the way they want...if you don't like it, deal. But to stretch a thread out over here, waste good Andrew's bandwidth on all this crap...is, well, a waste of time, money, energy, feces and anything else worthy to those that have posted in it.

That's actually not true. They were very good to me back in the day, both as a fan and later as an employee. They (with Herbie) pretty much invented the concept of how to run a great fan club. There was interaction between the fans & band members; they held great seats at shows for their fan club members and didn't charge scalper prices. We did a fan club newsletter every month. The band members invited us into their homes and lives. We had so much fun. It takes a great deal of commitment from the artist to have a fan club be satisfying to the fans. And it's not cheap, either.

As for the music, I will never forget the feeling of being at a concert, the lights are down, and you hear the first few notes signaling the band was about to blast out on stage. I still get chills thinking about it. For me, there was no one better live than the Journey that I saw.

So things have changed now. We're all older and maybe they feel they have given enough and are content to be on cruise control now. I can't say I'm a fan of the new web site but it's adequate, I guess. As a singer and front man for Journey, Arnel just doesn't do a thing for me. So? He apparently makes many others very happy so why should that bother me? It doesn't.

I can't stand to visit the site again until someone tells me that the errors in grammar, construction, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc are gone. The band really needs to hire a professional proofreader and a copy editor to clean everything up. I know several damn good proofreaders and copy editors who I would be happy to recommend!

Spanish Archer is a slang term that means: To dismiss, to sack. A pun on the 'Spanish archer' being called El Bow, thus 'give someone the elbow' (dismiss someone). The shoutbox isn't the problem, it's the forums. They become filled with 90% Arnel based threads without any regard to the rest of the band. It becomes like a secondary AP fansite instead of a place to discuss the entire group. If you try to rally against it in anyway, you're labeled as a hater.

The same thing happened when Steve joined the band. Any Perry talk led to a beatdown. But the boards rode it out and worked through it. The same would be the case now with Arnel's fans. I think the forum was a good thing for the band, but the band needed a different idea about moderation. And I think the excessive forums were an issue. Personally, I think the GF is fine. Make it very clear that the GF is for Journey talk only but that all eras and members are open for discussion. Then, be consistent with the rules of conduct and the consequences. Those rules should ne be as heavy-handed as they were in the past, and they should only be enforced by the moderators...not other forum members.

Actually when Forums became the rage, SMFP was already history and any references to him could net you a cyber asskicking in Official journey circles.

OT but something I didn't know was that Essential Journey went platinum in 2005. Considering there was already a greatest hits album out there, I think that is very impressive. I only bring this up because of Cain's comments about Revelation being their first Platinum album in 20 years. TBF and Essence both hit platinum, and while Essential is a compilation, Revelation which has more re-records on the complete album than original material, could fall under the same category at least here in the U.S where the the second disc was considered part of the album.

Thanks Lora for what you said.....I remember those days at the Force. Nothing like it in the world. I try to explain it to folks but I guess unless you lived it you won't know. I know I get on massive defense for you and Cyndy, and I bet you wish I wouldn't, but I remember you guys so well. I am sure after all the years you barely know me anymore, but we had alot of fun in those days, and we have the staff at the Fan Asylum to thank.

I again thank you for all the help with the quilt project. We had cool contests, prizes, interviews etc.... They guys really gave some long interviews with you two! And they were great, and funny! Too bad we cannot reprint all of them again for those who seem to wish to sweep the past under the rug.

I also know what your saying about the shows........the lights, they rush on stage, instant Goosebumps! Like fire in your veins! Nothing like the old shows!

I am not against what the band is now. But Steve will always be my favorite lead singer. His voice is so unique no one can master it completely. Voices that beautiful are rare. A true gem.
