One of my favorite album covers - ever. Two of my favorite things: chocolate and Chicago (the band and the city).

Word...I'll go as far as to say, 1970's / 80's Smith was better than present day...And yeah, I know he's a scholar and all, I just liked the way he played back then..

Also, Smitty and Vinnie for college roommates at Berkley...Small world!~

Mike Portnoy gets no love here...he's my boy, though.

My fav drummer joke: "I really like the musicians in that band... and the drummer is pretty good too."

Buddy Rich then Dave Weckl, Smitty and Peart in that order.

Don't misunderstand me, he's absolutely amazing, brilliant, unspeakably talented today...Considering the band and Smith's level of talent, Journey had the best drummer, and perhaps more aptly put, the right drummer during their peak. Styles definitely vary on this list, but I would suggest looking at things within context.

With the exception of Peart (and maybe Portnoy) Danny Carey blows all these dudes away!

I don't agree with that statement about Carey at all, sorry to say.

Just because someone is a masher, does not make them great drummers or (especially) percussionists. No-one can play dotted rythms as well as Smitty, for example.

Dave Grohl - the only good thing to come out of that over-rated musical train wreck known as Nirvana - is quite the player himself.
