First 2009 US Summer Date for Journey

"Rock-Fest", held in Cadott, WI from July 16-19, 2009 has announced that Journey will play the festival.

Looks like the band will be playing a lot of festivals this year. I've never been to Rock-Fest as they have recently been featuring less good music and more cringe-inducing bands like Korn.

I would go for the sake of Journey except I'll be at the neighboring Moondance Jam in Walker, MN on the same weekend. I wish that Moondance would have signed them instead....

I wouldn't give up on Moondance yet. Sheryl Crowe is doing both. I'm keeping my fingers crossed since I've been to Moondance the last couple of years and it's a great festival. It drives me crazy that these 2 are overlapping.

Now Moondance is really in the middle of NOWHERE

Wisconsin Dells is a great place to vacation. I go there often. Cool resorts and great waterparks. We usually go to Wilderness Resort:

The 4BR condos are sweet, and there is a casino down the street. Unfortunately it's about two hours from Cadott, so it wouldn't work well as a place to stay while in town for the show.

I don't have any kids so that helps. I usually save all winter and travel all summer. Last year I went to see them in Vegas twice (March and July), Texas, North Carolina, Ohio, New York and Illinois (home). It really helped winning a few thousand dollars in Vegas. My entire summer was essentially free, leaving me with twice as much money to travel with this year. This year I'm targeting California and Florida as far as places I've yet to travel and see them. If they do the New York State Fair again I'll be there. That was an incredible fair and an even better time. The area surrounding Syracuse was a lot of fun.

You're lucky - right in the middle of the Midwest concert hotbed!

I hope Journey plays Red Rocks this year, would love to attend a show at that venue.

I was hoping they'd stay off the fair circuit this year since working fairs seems to carry a certain sigma. I've got this one friend who is no longer a fan, who says that "nowadays they'll be lucky to work the fair circuit". Hearing that doesn't set well with me. Oh well.

On the other hand, I'm glad the fairgoers get to see Journey. I guess this is a case of "some will win - some will lose - some of them sing the blues".

As a concert-goer and photographer, I prefer fairs because they are outdoors, but at the same time there is a certain stigma. The negative stigma of a state fair doesn't really make sense, though, because many state fairs feature very popular acts. Even in North Dakota we already have Motley Crue and Taylor Swift signed.

Steve - I think Journey has always done one year major markets and if they tour the next year, it's secondary markets. Now some of these may be state fairs, but the venue in Louisville is definately bigger than the arena here in Chicago where AC/DC and other major acts play, Des Moines is not too shabby either. Granted it's not the sheds of last year. but those are going by the wayside as very few acts can fill them up anymore particularly this year. I think it's a smart call to do the festivals and bigger fairs. It's scarey out there for a lot of folks right now and these give folks more bang for their buck when they do decide to venture out. Take a look at who's going to be at these fairs this year.

I could care less whether it's part of a fair or not. I'll still be there as well as thousands of others.

Yeah, RocknRoll, with the economy the way it is, this is probably the way to do it. There are just not as many folks who can afford premium venue tickets at present. I'm sure that's a consideration.

You're right about that. In 2006, all that was left was lawn seating when I saw Journey in Dallas. In 2008, the lawn sold out before the better seats did.

BTW = Just dropped over to Ticketbastard to see what's out there and it looks like Journey is selling out their 3rd Honolulu show. Nothing but singles left. Unbelievable!! Tickets went on sale this am. Damn, I should have gone.

Seems like the answer to "who is Journey touring with this year?" may be "no one" -- festivals and "An Evening with Journey" shows at smaller venues.
