Neal was on fire. I agree, it sounded great.

You gotta' know Arnel's wife, brothers, and father sitting out in that crowd had to be so proud. What a night for Arnel.

OK. Scratch the DVD idea.

How about Blu-Ray in 7.1 TrueHD or DTS-HD???

This would be my fave song on Revelation...and, if I choose to see them in concert this tour they better play it! That was great! Thanks! :)

We just had a dvd of Deen singing the hell out of this.
To include this again baffles me.

"Mother, Father" isn't one of my very favorites, but I can see why they'd want to include it in the setlist. It's allegedly the hardest song in Journey's entire catalogue and allows the band to showcase Deen Castronovo; he's singing an incredibly difficult song (and nailing the chorus in stronger ways than Perry himself did) and managing to play the complicated and heavy drum beats as well. On a lesser note, it has one of Cain's finest piano intros and two kickass Neal Schon solos.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Yeah, you've lost me. It's a strong song, allegedly their most difficult, and a vehicle to showcase their pianist, their guitarist, and most importantly the vast spectrum of their drummer's talent.

And it's one song that isn't played to death. Why not?

Because we just had a dvd of this.
I really don't think that merits further elaboration.
Deen singing is a rarity as it is, why wouldn't you have him doing something else.
Like, say, "Suzanne," which has yet to be released on any recorded medium.

You didn't just have a DVD of this; you make it sound as though it were the only thing on there and what the entire show was centered around. It wasn't. And I gave you plenty of valid reasons why the band would like to play it again, especially when it was so well received and reviewed previously. "Suzanne", unlike "Mother, Father" is not a showcase number for the band. It was driven purely by Perry's vocals with the instruments being literal afterthought. No stellar musical acrobatics and I think Neal regards the majority of ROR to be akin to a plague. I personally like it, but I don't call the shots.

All in all, you may not like it that they played it, but it's not hard to see why they'd want to.

We could only wish! Man, I would LOVE to see the whole set. Has anyone even determined if they were filming? I thought someone said they were just recording audio for a live cd? Either way...I'll be a very happy man!

Sure.

I know it didn't for Revelation, but the DVD was more or less a bonus disk; a teaser to get the audience willing to buy tickets for the concerts. Weren't the Houston and Arrival DVDs given their entire setlists?

I thought this will be a packin with a Studio Album. If it's not than maybe you're right. TDTWT needs some serious studio magic. The backup vocals had me cringing.

Oh, no. No, no authority to my knowledge stated that it would be packed with a studio album. Some people have suggested/speculated, and others like myself believe that it should be packaged as a live DVD/CD set i.e. the Houston concert. But as far as I'm aware, it's just going to be a regular DVD release.

Only if you don't own their last two.
As with much of the band's endeavors post-Perry, this setlist suffers from a crippling lack of imagination.
A live version of "When you Love a Woman" has been long overdue, but that's about the only thing that tickles the diehard in me. That, and maybe "Edge of the Blade."

No "Suzanne"?
No segue into "Stay Awhile" after "Lights"?
No "Chain Reaction"?
No "Party's Over"?
No "Only the Young"? Really?

If only for posterity's sake, these songs should be committed to harddrive somewhere.

EDIT: Other accounts are mentioning that OTY was indeed played, so maybe I jumped the gun.

There are many songs from the catalog I'd rather hear than these and I would give up any of the old ones for the 7 new ones & WYLAW, just hope they all make the dvd.....Suzanne is one of the worst songs they ever did imo.

A live CD/DVD set would make the most sense for where they are at the moment. I don't honestly see the point in doing a live DVD release with no audio disc to accompany it.

Sweet baby Jesus that was good!

Edit: I think it's now pretty fucking obvious from these live songs that the stories about Arnel coming in and nailing these songs in minimal cuts were true. What I Needed sounded better and more vocally difficult live than it did on Revelation, but then again Arnel is much better shape and tip top vocal form now. The way he concluded the song saying "What I needed was you" harkened back to the Perry early 80's in its sincerity.
