Sure.

I know it didn't for Revelation, but the DVD was more or less a bonus disk; a teaser to get the audience willing to buy tickets for the concerts. Weren't the Houston and Arrival DVDs given their entire setlists?

I thought this will be a packin with a Studio Album. If it's not than maybe you're right. TDTWT needs some serious studio magic. The backup vocals had me cringing.

GB, I went back to figure out what it was about the backup vocals that were off. I thought they were lagging behind a few times when I first heard it, but maybe not. Early on in the song the background vocals were almost jarring or distracting, especially when comparing it to the CD, where they were more muted in backing Arnel.

My favorite Arnel era song. Sound like it could have been on Frontiers for sure.

Arnel's best performances ever. I am sure being at home, being well from breathing the air he is used too plus the break have him in top form. Very impressed with every clip. If they have to tune down on occasion to insure that he is able to deliver like this more often then so be it. Arnel was flying high as well as the whole band. Not sure about the new additions to the songs. SW is awesome except where Neil hits the wrong damn chord at 4:09 in the SW vid. It happens.

wow, these are pretty amazing clips for a band that'll be breaking up next year, huh Deano?
(Love ya man, just had to say it....)

;)
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

WHY didn't they do that on the recorded version??? That TOTALLY fit in there and made the song much cooler. Wow...

Yes, it seems like every effort was done to make sure the footage will be awesome:

1. They had days of practice in Manila even if it means traveling back and forth
2. Then off they went to Japan for on-the-job grand rehearsals (no offense :D)
3. Tried a long set-list in Japan to make sure they can handle it
4. Even tried a lower tune to see if Arnel would show signs of breaking at the end
5. They knew Arnel will give his all if the venue is Manila
6. They scheduled it at the start of the tour but after a few shows to make sure Arnel has re-adjusted and in peak form
7. They also made sure the grand rehearsals would be in a country with very strict piracy laws (to keep the suspense)
8. Even shipped Rip just in case Deen gets kidnapped or Arnel fails in #4 (had him practiced Open Arms for good measure in original key)

Can't wait for the Blu-Ray.

I love Deano, but the other day he was bringing me down.
Maybe this is their Farewell performance and they want to go out with a bang????

To me, Arnel's voice just sounds wasted, baked, and horrible. He really is Toast. He should retire now.
MY ASS!!!!! He's kicking ass here.

I just watched the clip of After All These Years. I've always like the song, but not loved it, even live. But that performance blew me away. Really amazing.

I agree. I always felt Arnel strains on this song in places.

Easy, Webster. Our definitions obviously vary to some degree.

I Can See It Your Eyes would ROCK... but everyone would vacate the venue for one massive beer break. Too bad. Maybe if they hadn't left one of the 3 bests songs OFF TBF, that could've been avoided.

JSS killed it ... not trying to start Schutt, but this is just a raw rocker that even sounded a little weird with Perry singing it.

Way cool stuff here...
I don't think they'd get away with playing all this stuff in the US. Too bad for us. The US audience has the attention span of 6 year olds and so to actually LISTEN to something they might not've heard before would be just too taxing for them.

Hope there IS a DVD of the entire show.

LD- Maybe I missed this being mentioned earlier, but these songs aren't tuned down. Cool.
That's an interesting strategy, tune down for some shows and not for others. Wonder what the deciding factor is there.

I thought maybe b/c they had three shows back to back right b/f the Manila concert they did that to not put a strain on Arnel's voice for the DVD concert.

It was actually back to back to back. Combine that with the fact that they were shooting a DVD in Manila and it was really the responsible thing to do. I think the 3 shows in a row in Japan were a result of the place being wildly expensive.

I'd imagine this was probably the best Journey concert ever.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Four shows; two with Augeri, one with JSS, one with Arnel. And then all of the videos I've seen of Perry minus a select few.
