What would you be comparing it to?!?!?

Four shows; two with Augeri, one with JSS, one with Arnel. And then all of the videos I've seen of Perry minus a select few.

Yeah.

Of course mine is an opinion, to which I am entitled.

I don't think he and I will have an argument. Deano's not a fan of mine, I don't believe.

Best Journey show I ever saw was the Departure show in Seattle, then Escape's. ROR was also a great show, but I HUGELY missed Smith. The Frontiers shows I saw just didn't thrill me. It seemed like Perry was on Autopilot that night, hardly spoke to the crowd at all.

The Augeri show I saw in 98 was "Okay", but they had Cain's brother filling in on drums and even then Augeri didn't have the power that Arnel or Perry had live.

I'd have to say

Departure
Escape
ROR
Revelation

Maybe swap ROR and Revelation, but I remember the ROR show being a good one.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

1) Why post on here if you aren't a fan anymore??????????

2) How can you call Revelation "dated" if you haven't listened to it???????? The bottom line is that they played new songs and non-GH songs and added nuances to GH songs. What more can you possibly do? Jesus!

There are quite a few ex-fans who continue to post on these boards. It's not all about Journey here to everyone; there's a community and network of friends. So I see why Deano would still want to be here. I agree with Jana, though. Seems like the guys can't ever win regardless of what they do. Like it or not, this is an incredibly diverse setlist and they're playing and singing their hearts out. Good for them.

Egads! No! No sir. Fantastic song, vocally. I also like the entire rhythm of the song, including the bass, keyboards, and even the solo. They aren't acrobatic or impressive displays, but the song is touching in its simplicity. Alas, that was the problem with the majority of RoR. Perry saw to it that it was... well... all about Perry. Even though I'm not impressed with his rampant egomania, he did deliver on the goods.

I am not allowed to comment, especially when I know more about this band than all but three people here, maybe even two? Am I not allowed to present an opposing POV, instead of fucking cheerleading every song, lyric and show? I am not one of those from the "private site" who comes in just to hate. I offer a truthful, hopefully insightful dissenting viewpoint. Don't like it, fuck off.

2) How can you call Revelation "dated" if you haven't listened to it???????? The bottom line is that they played new songs and non-GH songs and added nuances to GH songs. What more can you possibly do? Jesus!

I went to that Vegas show. I heard four songs. Not dated? I guess it must be just my ears that hears a similarity between the first song off that cd to 2 previous released ones? They played maybe 2 on average, new songs on their tour. What "non GH songs did they bust out? Curious? Maybe Mother Father a few times. Spare me the lecture thorn dick. I know my history of this band.

3) Why are you so bitter that you aren't on the inside of the band anymore...get over it and move on for Christ Sakes!

I have moved on and I am not bitter. It just baffles me that so many here look the other way with regards to slime ball practice, fraudulent behaviour, and frankly, low life personnel practice- Lip Syncing, deceiving fans, knifing "sit in singers" in the back, professional scalping of ticket sales against said fans....shall I go on?

I found other bands out there that actually I am proud to be a fan of. It's so much more appeasing to follow bands that are good to their band mates and good to their fans.

I don't have to love Journey to post here, and the day you post something worthy of this band's practice or history better than I, is the day I will ever listen to you.

I agree. I always felt Arnel strains on this song in places.

JSS killed it ... not trying to start Schutt, but this is just a raw rocker that even sounded a little weird with Perry singing it.

gotta start schutt, chica, if it is called for.

they should leave that alone. no one can touch that song after JSS got done with it. and DOA. not even Perry. lya smfluffingP.

there are lots of others that Arnel does so well. It just doesn't suit him so good, me thinks.

another is IBAWY. did they do that one? I could have missed that link but I didn't see it.

Okay, I have never been that impressed by any previous live clips of Arnel singing with Journey before .... but have to admit this show is outstanding. I guess he was saving his best for Manila. Being in front of his countrymen probably helped calm the nerves, too.

fredinator wrote:I wish Journey could play a whole night of just 70s-era songs; but unless they tour like Bob Dylan does sometimes at small venues (like The Backyard or Stubblefields here in Austin) let's say, I can't see it happening. The time for taking big risks at concerts are over, I think. It was different then (in the 60s and 70s); I don't know how to describe it. Maybe it's because the music business has become an institution or something. Seems like after time everything becomes an institution. Maybe that's what Journey is, an institution... Anyhoo, I'm rambling.

they DID do the 70s era things at the Backyard in Austin!!! It was magnificent. 1 hour of obscure schutt. THAT show will never be topped. IMHO. I'm glad I was there. Ross was completely lost in the tunes. beautiful. I don't think I looked away from him but a couple of times.

sorry--I got carried away.

(and I got the autographed drum head, my daughter got a cymbal and I got Deen to sign the Soul SirkUS cd, after much begging) ok I'm really done now.

resume Manila links, please.

You are as bad as some myopic Arnelian sometimes. :) Come on Deb, as much as you and I for that matter love Jeffy, Perry can't be topped. Go listen to Perry do this on the Houston DVD and then listen to anyone else try that and tell me with a straight face that Perry's version was inferior.
