Well...
I just think it's "coincidental" that Mr. Bettencourt states such a thing....
...and then Steve shows up out-of-the-blue in AZ....for Manny's Dodger thing.
Hmmmm......

MB: Just before I wind up, I’ve heard you’ve been working with Steve Perry recently. What’s been happening there? Will there be anything released? How’s he sounding?
NB: Yeah, we’ve worked on some things. We get together once in a while, we’re friends and he was at the last Extreme show in LA. I’ve been trying to get him to put that record out he’s been working on.
He’s definitely working on stuff. At some point I’m going to have to break into his house and take it and put it onto the Internet.
He’s such a super talent and I just love his singing. He’s one of my favourites and I keep telling him that he needs to be back here, people need to hear him sing. He’s Portuguese you know. He’s one of the few people I can speak Portuguese with.

...or...there's always the Walmart/Best Buy etc., route. Didn't Prince sign to release his next three CD in a deal with one of those stores? I'm not sure SMFP has fond memories of Sony.

I guess we all know who has the power

For the record, though, I don't think anyone here doubted that Perry was "working on stuff" as Nuno put it, but they doubted whether or not he would release it to the public. And Nuno seems to have serious doubts that he will, judging from the mock jest to break into Perry's house and put it on the Internet.

SP isn't Prince. His status as rockhermit hasn't made his marketabilty go up at all. Exclusives are for multiplatium artists that might have one last hurrah in them. I know Street Talk was 2x platinum but that's where his track record ends. I don't think Perry can generate the numbers they need on that first week of release to increase store foot traffic enormously.

Nuno Bettencourt writing new music with Steve Perry
posted by Jas, 05/31/2007
According to the Post Chronicle Nuno Bettencourt is currently writing new material with Steve Perry. The Boston Herald recently had an interview with Nuno where he mentioned that he's working with Steve.
A meeting of such different minds is a very L.A. thing, said Bettencourt, who now makes his home there. "People don't discriminate out here," he said. "No one thinks, 'Oh, I can't work with him because he's pop or he's alternative.' People are really up for these eclectic combinations out here." Bettencourt should know - he's pushing the eclectic envelope. Between making the Satellite Party record and touring it, he's writing songs with Steve Perry of Journey.
"I'm now telling people I'll only work with people named Perry," said Bettencourt with a laugh. As two of the few guys in rock of Portuguese descent, they've been friends since Perry cold-called him rambling in Portuguese. "That's the way it is out here. One day you're working with Perry Farrell, the next you're working with Steve Perry."
