Any suggestions of the best you tube clips to take a peek at, please?

Not mentioned in this thread, but my favorite, Michael Johns:

Check this out...Adam in 'The Ten Commandments' - the production looks lackluster, even with Val Kilmer, but Adam sounds great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvwcJUhI ... re=related

Just checking them out - Clay Aiken I think has a great Cabaret/musical voice. I like his voice.
I think Chris Daughtry is obviously a rocker, but he's not my cup of tea.
Taylor Hicks - not impressed.
Ruben Studdard - I thought sounded pleasant. But he didn't move me.
Fantasia - not bad.
Kelly - I like.
Carrie - ok.
That's just me though.

Melinda I think is in a class of her own. And she should have won. I think her voice and vocal skill is streets ahead of the others.
But I guess she doesn't have the 'look' they want.
Such is life.
Then someone like Britney Spears is the one who gets the big success. No justice.

What about the one who beat her? The one who DID fit the physical profile but didn't sing so well?
Has she had any success?
Jordin Sparks. Nice girl, pleasant voice but not a singer in the class of Ms Doolittle IMO.

I still think he has a great future in that field.

And I liked his version of Ring Of Fire.
Country is obviously not his genre so rather than make a fool of himself trying to sing a country song in the usual style, he twisted it and made it into a rock opera.
I love the guy.

And I adore that haircut.

I think musicals/Rock Opera would be his calling, too...but, I'd seriously buy his music if he did what he did on 'Ring of Fire'. I'm reminded of when Daughtry did his take on Johnny Cash and it was a wow moment!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VhxGshUdrY
Same with David Cook when he turned "Billie Jean" into his own. These guys know what works for them and put their own flavor to a song that takes it to another level. They stick to their convictions. I hope Adam does, too 'cuz if he lets the judges opinion sway him it will be diluted and boring.

David Cook didn't turn "Billie Jean" into his own. Chris Cornell turned "Billie Jean" into his own, and David Cook rolled with that version.

I thought Adam's version of "Ring Of Fire" was fuckin' genius. Growing up with country music as one of my main influences I love the traditional sounds, but I also love it when someone takes a chance and gives a song new flavor.

I think Adam is probably a little too "Broadway" for most people's taste, but you can't deny the guy can sing.

Danny Gooky is good, but there's a hundred out there like him.

The young girl Megan Joy is definitely unique and absolutely beautiful.

I don't know why all the fuss over the blind guy. He's mediocre at best.

And Lil Rounds blows me away.

However, my favorite on the show right now is the 16 year old girl, Allison Iraheta who I swear is the fuckin' reincarnation of Janis Joplin.

Oh, for those asking about Melinda Doolittle, she just put her first album out. I heard the first single and it is so cool, so old-school sounding that I loved it. I hope the rest of the CD is in the same style.

I thought it was tremendous. He took the song and made it his own. He was on pitch, and gave his usual strong performance. It was nowhere NEAR the worst Idol performance ever.

Bobby, my TN brother, you are AGAIN right on the $!

However, even though he or Lil SHOULD win, they probably won't. This show's history is littered with instances where the best performer got the shaft. Bo Bice, Melinda Doolittle, Chris Daughtry, etc...

Oh, good Adam didn't get booted off tonight - can't wait to see what he brings next week for Motown week! I like how Randy Jackson tonight said the same thing I did about the Jeff Buckley vibe. They really should have winners for both male & female 'cuz I do think Allison is somethin' special, too.

Thanks for this link I will go and listen now.

Alison Iraheta is my favourite on this show. When she sang "Alone" she blew me away. Fabulous voice.

But I have this feeling Danny could be the winner. Don't know why.
I like Lill too.

EDIT - just listened to Melinda. Her voice is fantastic. Didnt care for the song though.

You must be tone deaf. Adam's vocals were spot on, and his performance definitely stood out as the best performance on Idol in a long time. He hit high notes that I haven't heard any other male vocalist on Idol hit before. He's the rocker of the show for sure.

I bet you like Sanjaya's vocals the best.

Oh, I get it. It's the gay factor. I didn't think most of society was still stuck there, but I guess a few still are. Oh well... he will probably do well in spite of that.

What's wrong with theatrics - even gay ones? It worked for Freddie Mercury and Elton John (and even Steven Tyler, though he wasn't gay).

Rock and roll was meant to be over the top. The more gay theatrics, the better. Just ask Dennis DeYoung.

Well, some like it and some don't - doesn't mean we are "idiots". Besides, when I think of Freddie Mercury (whom I love) I think of "over the top", "theatrical", ya know, ballet slippers, crazy outfit, black nail polish, humor (singing doesn't have to be all serious)...so why is everyone freaking out about this guy? It might not be everyone's cup of tea but he definitely has the pipes and is a risk taker, unlike the ones who want to play it safe & vanilla.

Exactly. Who wants to see the rest of them sing karaoke every week when you can watch this guy put on a rock show? I say send the rest of them home and give us a full hour concert by Adam. Maybe they could get Steve Perry and Elton John to come in and mentor him for some extra ratings, and PeeWee Herman could replace Ryan Seacrest.

It was actually a cover of Jeff Buckley's cover, no?
Btw, JB died in Tenn...drowned in the river @ Memphis, I think.

When Simon said "What the Hell was that?" I thought Simon was dead on....Adams performance last night has to be the worst in idol history. That was just bad on all levels.

Paula saying it was Kashmire Led Zeplin like...OMG is she on crack on what....what a wrong statement that was.

Good luck with that.

Aside from that jesting strawman, I disagree with you.

Yes, Adam took a shitload of risks and I'm glad he did. Nevertheless, I felt that he was pitchy when not within his falsetto range. Not to mention the song that he played, as well as the somber mood that it portrayed, didn't match the vocals that were given.

Of course, that is my opinion, though.
