Postby stevew2 » Sat Mar 21, 2009 3:00 am

I was in Safeway last night walkin by the tomatoes and cucumbers,am damn if i didnt hear After all These Years. I only heard the guitar lead first and i knew it was Journey,I thought it was All The Way at first, then I thought no fuckin way, then heard Arnel come in on the chorus. They ruined the ending cause someone came in over the PA cause some asshole was needed in the bakery section. It was cool, they usually onley play Faithfully and Only The Young in that store

This guy thinks Journey's made it big:

http://www.starbulletin.com/features/20 ... ve_it.html

Then came Arnel Pineda, whose vocal power and range approximate Perry's so closely he could be Perry's clone. Now Journey is as hot as it's ever been in 30-plus years, thanks to Pineda, the true successor to Perry's "throne."

Um no. Hot as they have ever been in 30 years? Don't care who you are, that's just wrong right there. 30 years ago (ok, just about) Escape was number one and they were hitting multi-platinum on every record (without cheating). Escape was a number 1 record and GH went diamond. They are presently no where near the level of hot they had back then.

True. Even if Perry himself comes back, I don't think it would be the same as before. The current music atmosphere is just not like what it used to be. Today's musical ears belong to pop and hip-hop, sadly. 50 cents, Britney et al.

81-86
12 top 40 singles
Playing Stadiums in front of soldout crowds topping 80,000 people on occasion. Selling out Budokan three nights in a row.
That's what we're measuring against.

And before some one says you can't pull those numbers in this day and age as a classic rock act;
Bon Jovi, last year.
100 shows, 100 sell outs, over 150 million dollars made.
That's what were measuring against

Journey is doing well, just like they did in 2006 when they had the 15th best selling tour in the country ( which conveniently gets forgotten, just like the singer who helped them accomplish it, JSS).

With all due respect to the J-boyyyzz (Gunboyzz fave band), and not denying they've had a good run of the past year or so considering all the career moves and personnel changes that most bands just would not survive, and not saying having a gold record is shabby at all... but this is the most ridiculous piece of journalism ever. Ever, ever. If this is an op/ed piece fine. But don't report that Arnel has dethroned Perry and the world has now replaced "Don't Stop Believin'" with "Never Walk Away". It's ricockulous.

Yeah, Most of the people I work with either listen to country or the teenage pop and hip hop type shit. Thursday is the only time they play good music and a lot of those people bitch all night about it.

Actually rock is doing very well nowadays, just look at Nickleback, Hinder, Daughtry, Shinedown, etc. But Journey isn't rock anymore...

Course not. If Perry and Journey got back into bed with each other (there's a nice Friday image for you all, by the way), they might match or slightly top Revelation - I say they'd top it... but the coin would be in the live shows. Actually SEEING Perry/Journey again would be the big draw.

Having said that, I'll be outside waiting for.....
