It was actually a cover of Jeff Buckley's cover, no?
Btw, JB died in Tenn...drowned in the river @ Memphis, I think.

Always liked this version.

No Jeff Buckley has no recorded cover of "Ring of Fire" (at least, that is what I came up with) it is just that Adam Lambert sounded so much like Jeff Buckley in parts of his performance. Normally, I don't care for many covers unless they are done in an original inspiring way (like SP does with Cupid), and of course, this one by Adam. I just bought Adam's "ROF" from iTunes and it is different than the raw, edgier t.v. performance...I really like them both. The iTunes version has a smoother sound...maybe, if people listened without thinking it is suppose to sound like Johnny Cash they might be surprised.

Well, thanks for your comments, and I will stand by my own. I can't agree more with Simon Cowell, the man is always right, well most of the time anyway.

Okay, found it.

It was Dilana from Rockstar: Supernova

Interesting. Wonder if AL will get nailed for ripping-off another reality show?

Btw, apologies to Jeff Buckley.

Ewww...now that is bad! Someone said that this isn't her arrangement either, that it was from the '80s or something. I think the arrangement is cool & the way Adam sang it. Who cares what Simon or the judges think, at least I don't, it's individual taste and from what I am seeing a lot of people took notice.

The show aired here last night and I watched it again after having seen the youtube clip.

And I thought he was great!
I thought Alison did a great job too.
No matter who wins I think these two will have a career.

The part of the show with Danny Gokey on is aired here tonight, so I haven't seen him yet.
My money is on one of these three winning this year.

I'm going to try and grow my hair like Adam's. I'm almost there, just need it longer at the front.
I think he has a very striking look, and until last night I didn't realise how tall he is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow.

I must buy some black hair dye and nail polish.

I asked that very question down in JSS's forum way back in Jan/08, after I got the JSS Queen dvd..........

Those black nails
In answer to your question regarding those black nails. I saw Jeff painting them prior to the show and knew exactly why, as it is something dear old Freddie used to do... way back in the early days. And yes, it was usually just one hand. Queen used to have this black and white theme to their shows and indeed albums around the Queen II album era, right up to Bo Rhap, and Freddie would often been seen showing off his painted nails. Jeff never intended to go the tribute band route with the show, he was there to have a good time and sing the songs he loved so much in his own unique style. He is also a huge Queen fan and knows a lot about the band and their music and so I think this was a personal and respectful nod to one of his most respected performers.

So there you have it. :)

Just watched Idol lastnight and while I really, really like Adam... I hated what he did with that song. Country week kinda sucks, though. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does next week.

If he hasn't been asked to be a mentor, I sure as hell don't understand why! He would be perfect. Those kids would be in awe if they could impress THE STEVE PERRY!!

I hope Adam gets the chance to sing a G&R or AC/DC song.

Here's Adam singing his own song, apparently he has written, I like it a lot - catchy with the high notes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7vDziPv964
The guy has the most striking eyes - at 48 sec. mark he looks like he could be in a "Twilight" movie (and, no I don't care what team he plays on, he still has the "IT" factor).

"Double Wow" on the Brigadoon song! I happen to love musicals, including Brigadoon. He really held that note forever...and, it says in the info that it is a Live performance. I wonder what genre he hopes to go into after AI? I'm rather stuck on that youtube of The Ten Commandments song, "Is anybody listening?" Saw that it is available on Amazon. :)

This guy is a star already.
I'm blown away.
Great look, great voice seems like a nice guy - what more can I say except - can't wait to see what he brings us for Motown week.

Bring it on!

Now THAT is fantastic. It just shows that he can do Musical Theatre stuff really really well. His notes around 3.24 and 3.39 are beautiful.

I think I'm in love.

With some money thrown at him there is no reason why he couldn't tour and make his show a real theatrical experience. He appears to be able to sing anything, so no-one would be bored. He could have dancers with fab costumes and stage sets and his show could be like We Will Rock You but without the need for a story.
Vegas would probably kill for him.
Or he could do a standard show with a band of session musicians with him. I'm sure people would be only too pleased to write stuff for him.
And with thirty one million votes this week I think they would sell plenty of tickets.
And he can star in Musicals as well.

I think he is versatile enough to do any kind of show and make it interesting.

The problem is - if he wins, he'll be forced to make the standard American Idol type record first, which a lot of people will likely be disappointed with. It would be awhile before he's able to really shine with his style. I'm hoping he doesn't win just for that reason (but if he does I'd still buy his record :) ).
At times when I look at him I see Elvis in that face (or maybe Lisa Marie  ).

So do I...that crazy haunting high note at the 3:08 mark here is missing from the studio version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCXrygv1js0 (have to ignore the outside noise) Also, the camera work changed from the t.v. version to the iTunes video...I think the camera wrapping around him in the t.v. version added to the hypnotic sense of the song, which I like much more than the iTunes video.
Makes ya wonder if he had done the studio type version if the judges would've been more favorable?

Simon doesn't know what to make of him.
But then he only seems to 'get' female singers who look and sound like Leona Lewis. I think Simon's musical knowledge and experience is very limited.
He has a blindfold on when it comes to some types of music IMO.

And I think the only thing which will make him come around to Adam is if Adam is getting a large share of the phone votes.
If he is then I think Simon will suddenly have a eureka moment, see the dollar signs and overnight decide that Adam is fab.

Cynical? Me? Ha ha.

Simon has a weakness for hot blonds who don't have half the voice or entertainment factor that Adam has. I think Simon's homophobia is getting the better of him on this one.

Alright I can't keep my mouth shut anymore. This guy sucks ass. He's going absolutely nowhere. Label me curmudgeon...whatever. I can't fathom who would buy a CD of 'songs' screeched by this tranny. About the best he'll do is as a character in RENT. Pop star? Yeah....if Adam wins, and releases a pop Cd, I'll post a video of me signing Final Countdown....errr. Wait....reverse that. Not a great track record there.....

Not a fan, then?

I think he'll be a great draw for folks who like Musical Theatre.
I think he's marketable in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's field rather than Simon's to be honest.

What do his sexual fetishes have to do with his talent as an artist?

I would bet that Adam is already more popular than what's-her-name who won in 2007.

What was her name anyway?

Controversy always fuels the popularity of an artist.

If he did an album in the style of RING OF FIRE and with great melodies and incredible musicality, I'd buy it in a minute. And the "tranny" thing, why even go there? Do you think all gay men are "trannies"?
