Why do I continue to live here?

Postby Ehwmatt » Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:45 am

Just got back from a beautiful week in Hilton Head. Come back to cloudy skies and a 10-day forecast filled with rain and highs barely eclipsing 50. Instantly feel shittier after one run outside. What the fuck am I doing here?

Journey/Survivor might commiserate with you on that. He's a great dude. Take him with you to Shangrila if you can.

HHI is heaven on earth, man. Had a buddy who ran a kayak outfitter shop down in Sea Pines across from the Salty Dog. I spent a few weeks there with him back in the summer of 2006, drove to Savannah and drank on River St. every other day. That place will definitely make you wish you weren't home. Now you got me wishing I was down there...

Well S.C. is the 48th state education-wise so it balances itself out!   I just spent the last two days here on the lake in my new boat, and the weather was awesome. Caught 13 keepers too! It's been one of the best weekends I've had in a long time, and I don't want to get up for work tomorrow.....Maybe I feel a bug coming on.

Anything starting to blossom out yet? Grass getting green? I'm headed home for Easter (also my Mom's birthday) and I'm hoping to see some real spring, and not this dead dried up brown dingy stuff that's here. :D

Reminds me of Deacon's mother.

I think it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive. I'm right outside the capitol (Columbia).

Everything is starting to bloom, and my grass is definitely getting pretty green! All of my trees and shrubs are starting to bud too. This is my favorite time of year here. Now ask me in July and August how much I like it here!  It's too damn hot in the summer.

I'd love to live in Malibu or Santa Monica CA. The weather there is 65-75 degrees and sunny year-round, and minus all the flying Midwest insects that pelt your windshield all summer long. It would be nice, but pricey! Our 5,700 sq. ft. home that is worth $350k in central Illinois would cost about $4-million in Santa Monica.

It's a ranch - 2,850 up and 2,850 down, finished walkout basement.

We couldn't even buy a 700 sq. ft. dump in Santa Monica for what it's worth. For example, look at what $600k gets you in Santa Monica - a 663 sq. ft. 1-bedroom shack that would sell for $35k around here:

http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhom ... 1105334020

I love the weather there, but I think I'd rather have the nicer home and the shitty weather.

Ooo, he stoops to a 'your mother'! Deano better look to his laurels, I see a young contender in the wings!
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

The last spring break evar? Haha... hope you had a great time. I haven't had a spring break since 2005. Savannah is a great town anyway... I love the pubs and architecture.

I was thinking once my daughter is out of school about possibly moving to the Carolinas. Is it really THAT hot in the summer? Maybe I should consider NC.

I would love to have a second home in the mountains in North Carolina (sigh). Hiking in the fall, just spectacular the views, the waterfalls. In the heat of the summer, which is unbearable down here in Fla with humidity, up there it's cool nights in the mountains. Put me on a beach anywhere early morning when it's so quiet or late afternoon sitting out overlooking the ocean drinking a margarita or in the mountains during the fall with all the color of the foilage and I'm in such a happy state of mind, not a care in the world. Nature's Prozac.

Oh, well, back to reality, schlepping off to three different places today for work on a rainy day.

I have visited both of the places on your avatar. Cleveland has beautiful sunsets that rival anyplace else. Meadville seemed like a friendly little town. I remember stopping in at Hank's for out-of-this- world frozen custard.
