It's supposed to create a texture that makes sex more pleasurable for the guy's woman, LOL...

Used to be, doctors practicing circumcision would ask the patient if he preferred
an "American", "German", "exotic" or a traditional Filipino "cut". As the age of circumcision
got younger and younger here, and the patients less and less able to make an informed choice,

I think the performing of male and female circumcision should be based upon the consent of the person being operated on (barring life threatening medical emergencies). Once a person has reached the age of consent and can make their own informed decision about whether they want a part of their anatomy removed it becomes a matter of personal choice regarding the care of their own body.

If its so "necessary", why are 66-70% of the males in the world not circumcised?

As to the US... An earlier survey, conducted in 1992, found a circumcision prevalence of 77% in US-born men, born from 1932-1974."

My theory about why the rates in the US are so high is doctors successfully convinced parents it was necessary (so they'd have one more thing to charge for, I figure, but maybe at one time it was believed to be the "better' choice). But because the rate is so high here, parents continue to do it because its become the "norm" and they don't want their son to be different.

Having said that, I'm pretty sure I'd have it done if I had a boy, but mostly for the common factor. I don't see anything wrong with doing it, because its become such a common practice, but I don't find it to be necessary. Well above half the males in the world aren't cut, and I venture that most of them are getting along just fine.

The American Academy of Pediactrics does NOT recommend it. That is where most pediatricians get their info. My pediatricians 15 years ago DID NOT encourage me to do it to my son. They only gave me the facts on BOTH sides of the decision and actually were making me feel like it wasn't necessary. The only thing they told me that pursuaded me to do it was that if your husband is circumcized, you may want your child circumcized so they "look" the same. Look up the statistics. They do not support what you are saying STATISTICALLY. My son was 3 weeks old when he had it done and he was in a lot of pain for days. I can assure you. I blame social pressure.
