See? That sounded great. So why do they need all the tapes when they play live?

You'll never replicate the sound of their backing vox without the tapes. I like them just the way they are. Their use of tapes is for effect and I think it's fucking great.

It's not tapes... they just have sounds from their originals that you can't recreate with a five guy band. Such as with the medleys. It's not like anyone's out there lipping. They're true to their sound and I don't see any problem at all with the way they put on a live show.

I dunno, I just got back from seeing Collin Raye with Restless Heart and those were 100% live harmonies and damn if they weren't some of the best I've ever heard. I've seen a lot of famous harmony groups - America, CSN, Chicago, Beach Boys, The Eagles, Little River Band, and others, and I am just flat-out floored by what I just saw and heard. I'm pretty against using taped BG vox - even if the original album is layered such that reproducing the same sound live isn't feasible (Def Leppard...). Just my feelings. If a band uses them, it's not a deal breaker. I guess I'd just rather have it be live.

With all due respect, Matt... comparing 7h full band to Collin Raye or Restless Heart is like comparing apples and oranges. And in anycase, for every full band show they do, they have about two acoustic gigs... which are pure unadulterated live sounds, and not to knock the anthem but they're 10x better than that youtube... these guys are great at what they do, which is pretty much boundless genre-wise. You'd just have to see both shows, you'd like them. (I think...) :)

Oh I'm sure I would. I'm not even commenting on 7H - I have no base to do so, I haven't heard them before this! More just my general preference for things to be 100% live. One of the few things Deano and I agree 100% on.

I'll let him know. He'll have to come home from Columbus if he does. If not I'll bring my buddy Steve, he's just as funny. Maybe both of those fuckers even. Colin and I were just reminiscing about wrestling with a 250 pound man in a hotel room two weekends ago. What a good fuckin time

We were all fucking bombed, dude. The restaurant the day after was an experience as well. The "mall cop" jokes almost made me hit 3 people.

Well considering we spent about $300+ at a cheapass bar between the 4 of us, we'd have to be pretty fuckin lit up. Felt so horrible that next day. You fuckers tried to order a beer at lunch, lol. I knew that wasn't gonna work out too well

I dunno...Queen never used tapes and they kicked ass live. It didn't sound exactly like the studio version, but that was the point. I remember Def Leppard on their VH1 Storytellers in '99 singing an a capella chorus of "Armageddon It" and it blew me away. You can recreate anything if you put your mind to it, get a little creative, and have a band full of guys with decent voices.

Sorry....I really like those guys' songs and the lead singer has got some fuckin' pipes, but both times I saw them (in 2005 opening for Europe and in 2007) the tapes weren't for 'enhancement', they were almost drowning out the band (the drummer, in fact was almost completely overwhelmed by his own drum loops, making it feel even more like memorex).

It mildly annoys me when Journey and Toto do this too, given the level of voices onstage (particularly with Toto), but it's never been as loud in the mix as it was on the 7th Heaven stuff. There's great songs, a killer lead singer, and presumably a solid band behind all of it...don't cover that up with a laptop. In a live show, balls and energy go farther than computerized 100% precision.

You make some good points, but these guys play almost 200 gigs a year. They do what they have to do to balance being as live as possible and making sure they don't blow out their voices. Give them Def Leppard-like money and I'm sure they'd sing completely live while juggling fucking chainsaws.

Thanks! I will be sure to let ya'll know how it was, though Im sure it will be as good, if not better then last time! Seen them at The Lodge last time, but Bourbon St is ALOT different and the rooms are HUGE! Though they put on a great show at The Lodge, it was just a bit cramped to the point of getting bumped into the whole time, where at this place they are playing you can rock out without that worry as much! :D 8) 8)
