The "Randy Jackson is going to get Steve Perry to be on Idol" rumors/hopes have been flying for years now. Every Idol season, like clockwork.

People assume (or rather, people think wishfully) that just because of Randy's Journey stint, that Perry is going to show up on Idol. I wish I had a buck for every time I've seen that come up over the last few years. I'd be a freakin' zillionaire.

I understand that, but just because it HASN"T happened, that means that it CAN'T possibly happen, right? Just like the new album. Just because it hasn't doesn't mean it's not going to. I don't care if it's been 15 years or a trillion rumors, doesn't mean it won't happen.

Patience and positivity.

That part I will grant you. That line of thinking can be applied to anything, really. So yes... just because something hasn't happened doesn't mean it can't or won't.

Its just strange to me how people connected to Steve Perry, even in the most remote ways, always seem to get dragged into all the rumors and wishes and hopes for no other reason than their past or limited present connection. That's the part I was picking at. The conclusions people jump to are just plain ridiculous sometimes. For years now it's been "Randy knows Steve = Steve is going to be on Idol".

A women's intuition is more reliable then "Randy knows Steve = Steve is going to be on Idol."
So, I'm not jumping to conclusions, I'm relying on my gut instincts and they have NEVER failed me.
Perry is 60, and that usually has an effect, usually positive for changes in a person's life. Idol is a perfect
forum for Perry to re-enter the public atmosphere in a classy way. Pick at any part you want, but this is what I think. :D

Yeah but when you've been 100% off the radar for 15 long years, and you hope to sell big, you need to make people care.

The smaller group of die hards already do, but one can't rely on that. The rest of the world, or at least the US, who every once in awhile hear "Oh Sherrie" or some Journey song on the radio and think "Oh riiiight, Steve Perry... hey wonder what he's up to these days....?" and head to Google, (which is exactly what I had to do one day a few years ago, cuz I had no idea what the dude was up to)... in other words, the vast group of people he would need to reach, really are not paying attention. If one is going to plan a return after such a long while, time is not to be wasted.

Surely someone as astute in the business of music as SMFP knows this.

All true. What if he's more than happy to put out good music and have all of his fans buy it and some of the people you're talking about and is OK with it not having to sell 2 or 3 million units. I'm just not sure where his measurement of success will be after 15 years. Gold, platinum or what? As you said, his savvy business sense will tell him that the days of selling 5-10 million albums are over, but just what "success" would meant to him now, I guess only he knows.

I bet he can easily have a gold record, possibly platinum. Many people will who may not be diehards, will be curious to hear what his voice sounds like these days. His voice is the source of many rumors and arguments. Just go to some of the SP Youtube stuff, there are pages and pages of arguing about the shape of his voice. That will help sell new music.

We can bet that it will be a calculated situation when it happens with NOTHING left to chance.

I'm sorry, but... um... dude, what? Randomly guessing that SP would be on Idol because of RJ is just as much a shot in the dark as "woman's intuition". You don't know him, nor could you possibly have gut instincts about what he might do any more than any of the rest of us could guess. Been reading tea leaves and playing tarot cards? Those are just as reliable, I hear.

We don't know that man or anything about his life or what he's presently doing. To claim such is kind of wacky.

When/If Steve Perry announces a project, then believe it. That's the only kind of fact anyone cares about.

Well I damn well knew that 6' tall curly haired mofo wasn't Steve Perry when I was standing there talking to him.

I haven't noticed, but now you have said this I will watch out for it.

Sometimes they "act" humble while the sob stories are being pushed down our throats. Maybe that's what he was doing and now he has been getting consistently good feedback maybe he has dropped the mask a bit?

I do like his voice, though.

Well, she was bashing another women in her post.
There isn't a women alive that doesn't use their "intuition" in every day life.
My point was not that I know Steve Perry or what he is doing, but that I'm relying on my "intuition"
along with other facts to form a conclusion that I stated in my post, that SMFP is going to be on AI this season, IN MY OPINION.
That statement doesn't deserve BJB's ridicule. :(

Gee, forgive me for being logical. But you know what, *I* have been ridiculed and called "negative" just for being a realist and looking at the situation logically, so I'm really not concerned if other people feel ridiculed. Let's all put on our big girl panties and just deal with the fact that there are differing feelings about it.

Funny you say that, I was kinda thinking the same thing last night. I like his voice, but it doesn't totally wow me though. My fave 3 are Adam (that guy is great....he's unique, great vocals, and always thought Kurt Russel was a cutie  ), Alison (great voice, hard to beleive she's only 16), and Matt (soulful vocals, great song choice doing Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On, but the Justin Timberlake looks just don't do it for me  ).

Adam seems to be in a league of his own though, he's really good and has the balls to take major risks with his performances and most times it works.

She's relying on her Intuition... quit reading it wrong. She's just telling us that her razor talks to her and tells her where Perry is. Of course, one night the blades got dull and sent her to see JSS instead. But still. Don't knock a woman's Intuition! It has a moisture strip and built in creme! It knows what it's doing!

I didn't see ridicule. You were adamant your intuition has never let you down, so she responded. Take it like a big girl.

I can't trust your intuition b/c you argued for quite a while on your old post re a Steve Perry sighting in a wig with a tribute band when you told us JSS was Steve Perry, even when many people gave you facts, gave you heights, told you pointblank who it was. It wasn't that you were mistaken. It was how in the face of so many facts and longtime Journey fans telling you who it was that you were so adamant that it was Steve Perry and argued that you would recognize that voice anywhere, that there's only one voice like that. You trust your intuition and I will trust mine, which is he isn't going to be on AI. It's halfway through, and it would be amazing if he performed after all these years and exciting. But I think for Steve, after having not performed for about 14 years live, that he wouldn't chance his comeback in front of 20 million people or so not being at his absolute best and wouldn't risk it as he's a perfectionist. And, truthfully, the older acts on there have been disappointing many times, and I don't think are really appreciated by a good portion of the audience. My intuition has been off before. I hope I'm wrong with my opinion on this, but that's how I see it.

Not slagging on ya SP Fan in Oregan, just an honest question, but that is one thing I never understood about that whole thing. If you are a major Perry fan how can ya not know what he looks like????? :? That's like me seeing Robert Plant and swearing it's Eric Martin? :?

Well, now that's a very good point, Deb.
That strong SP intuition blinks out when JSS walked in, I guess. :?:

You know what I think it is?
JSS is just so magnetic, that it interferes with womanly workings.
I thought he was Johnny Depp, myself. :o

Obviously, YOU aren't a women!

BJG is very much a WOMAN and a great lady! 8)

Excuse me, but where in my post do I say ANYTHING about Steve Perry "singing" on AI?
