My favorite dark Journey tunes...

Postby G.I.Jim » Sat Mar 28, 2009 1:45 pm

Journey just amazes me sometimes as a band, and I've never heard a band out there that has so much power and soul in their songs. I figured I'd post a thread about some of their "Darker" songs with a lot of minor chords. They're my favorite, and I think that's where Perry really shined. I'll just post a few, and leave some for you to post...hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do!

"Troubled Child" and "What I Needed."
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Patiently and Winds Of March are so fucking boring that I doubt they could crack a Disney soundtrack.

Not sure if I'd call it dark, but Daydream is quite different musically. I like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-euFxTbfSzo

I love minor chords!
isn't the middle haunting notes in Wheel of the Sky in a minor key?

Walking Away from The Edge is a great "dark" Journey tune from Red 13. One of my favorites from the Augeri era and they've never played it live unfortunately, but I can probably understand why.

Just a really moving song, sung beautifully by Steve Augeri.
