I can see Neal and Deen salivating at the idea of playing it this way, while Cain sits there stunned and horrified. While this is going on Arnel and Ross are off to the side playing checkers. Ross yells "When you dickheads are done arguing again about how we're gonna play it let me and Arnel know."

The Beatle's Yesterday is the most covered song in history. You raise me up is also near the top of the list, being covered by over a hundred artist in it's short lifetime, earning Secret Garden's Rolf Løvland and writer Brendan Graham over a million dollars a year in royalties.

Yeah, well this song isn't something I would listen to, or go out and buy. But it's pretty well done for what it is.

Maybe they should focus on creating their own stuff, instead of butchering everyone else's. They seem to like to do that.

Interesting approach. I liked the music OK, but the lyrics don't seem to fit the style. It didn't work for me.

I remember hearing about Yesterday years ago. It'd be interesting to see a list of the top 10 covered songs. I'll bet DSB is on there.

You mentioned a song by Josh Groban. Too bad Perry didn't pursue a carreer like that after ROR. His voice would've worked well with that type of material. Now I'm reminded of a Groban haunter.

I found a Top 10 most covered and DSB wasn't on it.

But this was.

Whether it is to your taste or not, this is what a cover should be - take a song and make it your own, as though you were the first one to record and release it; make it fresh and original again. I wish Journey would allow its singers to do just that, and personally it's why I think they should have stuck with Soto - he sounded notably different to Perry, but could bring something fresh and original to the music. Augeri and Arnel are good singers, and I like their stuff, but they seem to have gotten locked into the mold of repeating what Perry did, instead of being allowed to remake the songs in their own style.

Personally I liked it, but I can understand why many don't.

Edit - just listened to their version of Róisín Dubh - fucking fantastic! Where ever he is, Phil Lynnott's raising a glass of the good stuff to them on this one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uMz4uw5SiY
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Definitely different from the original!

I liked the song Arianddu linked better myself. :D

Music - A

Voice - B minus

the lyrics to this song just don't match the music....

I love symphonic metal and prog so this is kinda good for me.

DSB is so overdone at this point I don't like it even when it's Journey.

JLB would make this arrangement really good. So would JP though. There's a Mother, Father cover floating around by DT that's REALLY good. I don't have it on here any more, had it on my old comp like 7 years ago. I'd love to track that down again. Doubt it's on iTunes but I'm going to check.

Someone should do a country version of "Lights" as a video response to this video.

Liguid Drummer and/or G.I. Gim - put your cowboy hats on and get 'er done.
