I'm a Journey fan, and a fan of Steve Perry with Journey - period. I can tolerate Perry-impersonators only because Perry is missing in action, and a Journey with a Perry-emulator is better than no Journey at all in my book. The hits that Journey made with Perry will never be replicated with another singer on a new album.

A Perry impersonator is akin to having sex with a dildo.

And since "the real deal" is impotent, it's (presumably [never had sex with a dildo, myself]) better than nothing.

The real deal is still around in case you haven't noticed. The radio stations aren't playing new Journey, they are playing Steve Perry Journey and talking about Steve Perry and praising Steve Perry.
No sloppy seconds for me, I'd rather be listening to the real deal even if the songs are not new.

I agree. I'm happy that Arnel got his big break tho and I hope that it takes him far.

I'm happy Arnel got his big break too and I hope he continues his success, but the question was whether we would buy an Arnel solo album.

I thought the question was about dildos? :)

Hey, I added on to her comparison to Arnel as a giant dildo with Perry being a man who can't get it up, and you bastards ignored it.

Perry can still get it up. He just needs somebody to stroke it...

Madsplash is abrasive and certainly not gentle. So I'd agree with you, if by 'stroke' you allude to the death grip of Darth Vader.

I would think anything he released solo would be for his Filipino fans, which means a steady dose of Ballads. You would suddenly be without two of the genre's most talented musicians/Songwriters in rock, it is just too hypothetical a question.

You mentioned in the past that Pinoy music fans love ballads. While that is true in the 80s and 90s, that is no longer the case now. You may recall that a Pinoy alternative rock band called Eraserheads sold more than twice the amount of tickets than Journey managed to sell. That was their 2nd reunion concert in less than a year and was held a week before Journey held their Manila concert.

I do agree though that majority of Arnel's fans like ballads.

That's why I said his fans. I know you all like rap and rock but the majority of your entertainment industry seems to built around the balladeers, Martin, Regine, Ogie, Pops. I guess it is slowly changing, but for Arnel, he's having a hard enough time in the Philippines pushing Journey's soft rock sound. Maybe he should go for the rockabilly/ Freddie Aguilar sound like Aiza did.

See, there's a straightforward answer to the question. No big drama.

I would only buy it if I think he has any songs on there I like. If not, I won't even though I like him with Journey.

The real question is, "are you being unfaithful if you have occasional sex with a dildo?"

...or if Arnel is a dildo, what kind would he be? I reckon he would be a jackrabbit because he moves a lot

I clicked Yes. But it comes with conditions. It has to be an English language album, which I'm sure it would be, and I have to like it. I may buy it anyway, just to support AP. He does a lot for others.

I have Rey Valera's greatest hits. If Arnel puts out something that can stand the ages like that thing, I might check it out. Is there any other Filipino artist who has had his songs covered as much as Rey?

You gotta point NIG. I just think Arnel's taken a lotta shit and the comment was pretty crappy. Yer right though, it was a joke, but the Perry diehards that bitch about "Perry impersonators" in one breath and then in the next say "Arnel sounds nothing like him" drive me crazy. So does the whole "we'll see, he's coming back, he'll sing with Journey again, he's blameless, blah blah blah" thing. Maybe they're worried because he actually does sound close in a lot of ways. I just thought it was a cheap shot. I'm glad that the guy's singing the songs and that Journey's kicking ass at their shows and some "fans" just won't let Perry go. Yeah, he's "the voice" (By the way, do you know how many other singers are called that? TONS), but the fact that he's turned his back on his fans, has done NOTHING since 1996 (13 years ago!), totally held the band hostage, took an equal cut of the touring cash when Augeri was there, etc. doesn't seem to matter. I've noticed what does seem to matter to some of these folks is crap like "how cute he is, etc." . These folks should be thanking Arnel. I guarantee you that if Journey didn't do as well as they did with Revelation, and if they weren't touring the world right now, Perry would STILL be sitting on his ass. The fact is, the guy's watching Journey move on without him, but THIS time, it appears to be having an impact, whereas, the Augeri years didn't make much of a dent. Arnel's getting all the press singing Perry's songs. I get that. But Hell, if Perry won't (and I say CAN'T) sing them, I'm glad that Arnel is.

I don't understand why peeps have to whiz on Arnel just to make Perry that more legit. I also don't realize why it bugs me so much. Just seems lame to me for "Fans" to be dumping on the guy who's given the band new life.
