True... haha. But it wasn't just about irritating them -- I was making a statement that I'm proud of my friends and I stand by them, just as I am of my friends here. They treated us extremely well when I visited their country, and consider us honorary Pinoys for coming over and showing interest in their culture, cuisine, etc. I tried to eat only Filipino food the entire trip, even though everything under the sun was available there. I just didn't want to eat anything I could easily get back home. We did end up in a McDonald's one night because it was all that was open one night, and it was pretty much the same as here. In fact, I was laughing at streets we drove down that were lined with McD, Wendy's, KFC, etc. They even had a Kenny Rogers Roasters there when I haven't seen one in my city in years -- always loved that place.

To anyone who has a problem with it, my avatar really has nothing to do with Arnel, Journey, music (except for Dokken), anything. It's about traveling and learning, making new friends, and enjoying not only the differences, but also discovering that we have much more in common than I imagined. Whatever happens in the future with Journey, those friendships will remain, and I'm proud of them. None of us that went wanted to leave, and every one of us is planning a return trip -- some as early as December.

I spent that week rocking out on the frontlines with one of my favorite bands, hanging out with AP's friends and family, and being treated wayyyyy better than anything I deserve, like I was some kind of VIP or something. Also probably made it onto a DVD and wound up in an article on the concert. If anyone has a problem with that, I have a question for them -- what were they doing that weekend? Maybe I was missing out on the fun?

Dude, I know you are all happy about your wonderful new friends and new favorite singer, but how about turning it down about 20 notches? I don't know if you ever visited BackTalk, but man, your posts remind me of that place.

I've barely posted here until the last few days, man, and much of it is reactive. No concert reviews, no Journey YouTube clips, and barely a mention of AP's name. But someone must enjoy the thread because it has more than 1 view for every 10 in the single word thread that's been going on a year.

My favorite singers by the way are Steve Perry, Kelly Hansen and Jeff Scott Soto, in no particular order.

I personally have nothing against Arnel and I have wished him the best of luck many times since the day he joined Journey. I also was impressed with not only his singnig abilities but also from what Ive heard his humble personality. Arnel as a person or as a singer hasnt done anyone wrong. Even if he may not hit all the notes ALL the time (see if Perry can do it now, or anyone else for that matter),, even if he can not pronounce and dictate all the words, you have to be blind, deaf or living in denial if you think that he has failed in Journey.

The successful tour last year was a proof that he was the right man for the band. The (unnecessary) apology to the fans after SuperBowl, showed everyone that this guy is not only a great singer and a good person, but a human being.

While I may not be the biggest Journey fan (or the management of the band), I give credit where it's deserved and in Arnel's case he deserve a lot of credit for what he has accomplished. You can not aim your anger and frustration at this guy, if youre mad at the decisions Journey mangement has made.

Now with all that said, I also think that the avatar that Rip has put up could play as a bait to the so called haters .
At the same token that I think its disrespectful to post a "eat dog" post or pic or any crap like that, when you put a pic like Rips avatar it may come across as a bait and an invitation to a childish battle between Arnel Haters and Arnel Army.

I personally dont get offended by it one bit, its just a fucking picture. But in this case it speaks more than 1000 words, and while pride and respect maybe some of those words , I could also see words like bait, weird, geeky and obsessed....Back to wech's post,,sure its always a nice gesture to show other countries presidents or heros the respect their nation deserves, but in this case, Arnel isnt the President or a real hero. He is a singer of a band. There is a fine line between showing a frontman of a band the respect and salutation he deserves and obsession to extreme.

Should Andrew or T-Bone remove that avatar? No. Why should they ?? It doesnt have any obvious negative messages. Plus Rip has been known for his goofiness & fun with photoshop anyways so most people who know him dont judge him more than friends judge one another. If anyone should remove it , it should be Rip himself, but not because people attack him for it, but only if he thinks that the avatar has run it course and got its message out and its time to move on. By now I think everyone knows about his passion (mancrush) for Arnel

Gunbot has never been a hater. Ive always enjoyed his posts here and he is honest with his opinions and a lot of times I happen to agree with him. The last thing any of you want to do is try to include him in the haters group, cause he is not.

Just stating some facts and clearifying that just cause I run a site where people can critisize any band or singer, Arnel included, it doesnt mean that I always share the same opinion as the members of my forum . Andrew knows exactly what I mean. 8)

You're doing fine, Rip dear, you are representing yourself. Continue being happy and enjoying your life.

When the US President is in town, Filipinos line the streets waving American flags.
When our past Prez, Cory Aquino, visited the US the first time, a bunch of Americans did the same.
It's a salute, a courtesy and an acknowledgement of something shared, be it values, bits of culture, etc.
Doesn't mean either side is renouncing their pride in their own country.

I fly an American flag with my own beloved Filipino flag every July 4th -- to honor heroes who
spilled the same blood in the same mud, on the same side, Filipino or American.
If not for them and their peers, I and all our future generations might be speaking Japanese.

Considering the particulars then, his move struck me as a matter of course, and I was like...wow cool, way to goof around and razz that idjit lol.

True...
