Perry "Missing You" Appreciation Thread

Postby Balls Mahoney » Wed Apr 01, 2009 12:00 pm

This tune IMO is some of the best stuff he has ever done. I had some Journey and Perry cd's in my roto-player on random while I was cleaning the basement and Missing You came on. It made me stop just to take note of how good it is. I am typically not a loon in the least, as I have Revelation in the roto too, but damn this tune is balls marie! (great!)

IMO this is what Perry should be doing. Piano and the voice.

I hardly ever post, but rediscovering this cool song made me do it. Sorry guys/girls.

It's good 'cause what he does naturally, "emote", fits well in this one. Balladiers dream song.

Great Post. Horrible song. I say this with my loon credentials on my sleeve and a pill on my tongue, but I am not feeling this song. Lyrically, it's meandering with too much whining and pissing and moaning. Other than that, it's GREAT!

He needs to be doing some R&B or soul with a new pop act. I'm telling you...

Indeed. He doesn't need to go for the sagging pants look or opt for a rap persona, but modern R&B is right up his alley. Steve Perry featuring Usher. Or Steve Perry featuring Kanye West.

Careful what you wish for Gideon. Years ago I worked at this insurance company and there was this 50ish man who obviously had a medical condition that caused him to have enormous balls. I mean they were huge! My co-workers & I called him "Roller Balls" (Not to his face of course) and every time he'd get on the elevator with us, we'd try very hard not to stare, but you couldn't help it...it was all we could do not to laugh...poor guy

I agree....
BUT ~ I like this version better. Outtakes and all. 8)

His delivery is much more relaxed, richer, and lower than the "final product".

No, no, no....subtlety is important

Maybe lower case. You know, just to ease the balls in (so to speak).

Plus, "Balls Marie" is something my Italian Uncle Vince used to say when something was perfect. Either that or he would say it was "Tits" if it was just right.

Perry in the style is R&B or slow crooner is fine by me.

"Slowjamz" or R&B is the best outlet, I think, for him. Kanye could help him do that.

Kanye couldn't help SP do anything. One is the best rock/pop singer ever. How dare you mention them in the same sentence.

I have to go laugh myself to sleep.

My heresy knows no bounds. Yes, Kanye could help Steve Perry branch into mainstream R&B.

I have to go laugh myself to sleep.

Your posts aren't that funny.

Embarrassment**.

And he can sing quite well.

...but Kanye's not really a singer, he's a rapper. I think his latest release features him "singing", but from my understanding it required quite a bit a "studio magic" to correct a host of flaws regarding pitch etc. No, Gideon. That would throwing pearls before swine. Not a good match up, IMHO.
