New Perry Album reference (Not April Fools)

Postby JohnH » Thu Apr 02, 2009 3:14 am

Just got the new Modern Drummer.

Each month they have a section where they list about 20 drummers latest albums and concerts. Studio ace Russ Miller's latest projects are mentioned including the fact that he has just completed Steve Perry's new album. Pretty interesting. What was also cool is my neighbor across the street was in that section last month- he drums for latin star Gloria Trevi.

I'll believe it when I hear a sample track. Anybody know where I can find one?

Ya can't just mention it, man. Ya gotta post the quote and the link lest these people go nuts and literally start emailing everyone in creation begging for information.

Precise quote:

Update News from the current Modern Drummer Issue

Russ Miller recently did live dates with Andrea Bocelli and recorded former Journey lead singer Steve Perry’s first album in eighteen years. Russ also has a new instructional DVD out on Hudson called Arrival: Behind The Glass.

Yep. Won't be long before the flood of inquiries prompt a correction/retraction/clarification.

Until I hear it from an official outlet, I'll be in my pumpkin patch awaiting the Great Perry...YAWWWN

Why would Englebert want to do a duet with Perry? Perry is clearly not even in Englebert's class as far as emoting, range... and what not. Geez! You people!!

I hear from a reliable source that on his new album, Steve has done a cover version of "Quando Quando Quando" with Engelbert on backing vocals.

But what's up with the first album in 18 years? That puts us back to '91.

Yeah; you're right!

Maybe they should've used one of these before writing.

Right. Little bit of a fact checking problem there, eh? Wonder if they bothered to check whether this album that Russ played on is actually going to be released before printing this.

Maybe they put the 18 years in there because this latest recording won't be released until 2014? :P

Now see... this here is a girl who's using her noodle. Hey... The Who lapsed for 24 years on new material, so anything is possible and at the current rate of production, 2014 sounds about right.

Or maybe it has to do with that 4 year cushion that Perry used to add to his birthday. I still have my old Journey Force newsletter that listed the year of his birthday as 1953.

Why in the hell would he record an album and not plan to release it? And pay one of the busiest drummers in the world, probably triple scale, to play on it?

Hilarious. Some are going to be in denial until the last possible second. Once SP does announce it, I can just hear it now,"I STILL bet he won't release it".

The disc will be in their player and they will say "This really isn't Steve Perry, it couldn't be, there were rumors of him putting a solo album out for years and it didn't happen, this can't be happening now".

I'm optimistic. The man is a perfectionist, so however long it takes to get a top notch product is fine with me. It's the printed inaccuracies like the 'first time in 18 years' that I find annoying.

BJG - remind me, did Madsplash not say somewhere very recently that he would only respond to you if you addressed him directly? So, what kind of code are you using, because for the life of me, I can't find anywhere in your post where you mention him.
Unless his name is actually Russ, of course. I thought it was Larry. :?

Jesus, Dean - since when did you become Madsplash's bitch? No matter if or when Perry releases it this year, or never, Madsplash is still a twit. I thought you were smart enough to pick up that people aren't irritated with the content of his drivel, just the presentation.

Listen, I can't say I love the madsplash posts that are repetitious and occasionally self-congratulatory, but it seems that some on here, READ: SOME, not ALL, are piling on the guy just for the sake of piling on.

I wouldn't think it out of line to give him kudos for spreading some hope if his info bears out.
