Summer Tour Discussion

Only 5 Journey dates so far for the US...makes me wonder if perhaps the tour won't be as extensive as originally thought?

They seem to be holding out for headlining gigs at large venues, but I'm just not convinced that a whole tour can be filled with those kind of dates in this economy. It seems to me that Journey is at that threshold where they aren't quite able to fill up the amphitheaters and arenas on their own just yet, but at the same time they don't want to settle for a bunch of casinos and small theaters.

I am excited about the tour though, and really looking forward to seeing them play outdoors at some of these packed state fairs.

Whatever the case, as long as they make it to Chicago...Im all good!! I would go anywhere to see them...a fair, a venue, it wont matter. Im there!!

I'm hoping they go out on their own. It's been a few years since they've done that in the U.S. I know it's not economical, but from a fan standpoint, it would be great to see them do the 2+ hour shows again.

If they weren't playing in Europe in June and early July, they probably could have gotten a gig headlining at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Tom Petty plays there almost every summer if he's on tour. Although there is still a chance they could play the venue. They do book concerts on that stage even when Summerfest is not on.

I'm hoping they go out on their own. It's been a few years since they've done that in the U.S. I know it's not economical, but from a fan standpoint, it would be great to see them do the 2+ hour shows again.

I'm happy to see them on their own as well, with their growing popularity it's definitely the right time to establish themselves as a band that can go out and fill venues on their own.

From what I've heard, they didn't want to commit to a full blown tour because of the economy, and I guess they don't enjoy doing one-off dates either, so I'm doubtful they will play any shows this summer.

They will be doing some shows with Heart this summer, according to Heart management. Those should be bigger venues.

Journey sure is doing alot more overseas touring than I can ever remember and they are having alot of success too. Just say that they sold out all three hawaii shows not to long ago.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if all bands see that the economy & people's refusal to spend frivolously affects their concert tix sales. They'll hit festivals and fairs where there will already be a crowd. They'll make a few bucks and sell a few more albums. Then they'll start planning next year.

Ideally, I don't think they should do another triple-act bill. Hopefully, due to detuning and a smaller schedule, they'll be able to play longer.

The biggest acts in music are on the road- Bruce, U2, Fleetwood Mac. Those bands will clean up as usual, and sell out every venue, large venues I might add.

The economy is shit, and people are going to dole out for the big names.

End thread. That's gotta be the plan. Families will want the most bang for their buck as far as entertainment this summer, so fairs are probably the way to go.
