Album Discussion---"Infinity"

this was the 1978 album perry debuted on with the band and one of its best efforts.there are fine moments all over this one.magic pretty much from start to finish and pushed this band from a progressive into a more radio friendly direction.


my favorites here are patiently,winds of march and feeling that way/anytime.

I remember exactly where I was when I first heard Perry's voice on 'Lights'. Sitting on my front porch step in '78 and was absolutely blown away. I begged my mom and dad to buy me the album, which I think I got for my birthday, later that year. I was hooked.

So how did Journey stack up against the competition at this show? <===specifically interested in how the Mighty Van Halen did 8)

I thought they were great!! As far as opening acts go, best I've ever seen!! They became better later in the tour, from
what I've been told. They performed for approx. 30 min. and got the crowd fired up. Their stage show was obviousy not
what it became, but we were kids and we just wanted to hear the music.
How did they stack up? Quite nicely!!! I was enthralled and thus began my love for VH, but Journey were clearly the stars of the
show, for me!!!

PS~Not a huge Montrose fan, not even when Sammy was w/them, sorry 78......

that whole first side... WOW. and then with Wheel...winds of march... then finishing with Open the Door...

first heard lights and was like nice... then feeling that way with Gregg singing... the goosebumps... sold then and there... first concert Departure tour...

Fantastic album and is what turned me on to Journey. Just wish the recording was better. Distorted like hell through my Craig Powerplay and Jansen Coax speakers when cranked at high volume. Drums were terribly muffled.

That's cool MG, Rock Candy is the only song I like by them anyway. My opinion on Infinity? Well, suffice to say that its the Best Album Ever Recorded In The History Of Man!

Amazing album - my favourite songs are Patiently, Winds of March and Wheel in the Sky - until I saw the video, I didn't realize that one sound was a soaring vocal by Steve! I think someone could easily write an entire essay on what a talent Gregg Rollie was - there would be no Journey today without him.

Hey Andrew, how about an interview with Gregg Rollie? He's been out of Journey so long, I can't imagine he's under any confidentiality agreements

The Voice Of Rock makes his debut on Journey's 4th cd Infinity. And from the first note of the first song you can tell that this is a different band. A band focused and with a mission. Finally Neal Schon had someone who could match his high soaring guitar. And they were a match that no other band could top.
Infinity starts with a slow number about there hometown San Francisco, Lights. Songs like this would be the future of the band on the radio. Lights was the best way to start off the new direction. Lights showcases both Perry and Schon, and shows what makes this band click now.
Perry shines on other songs to, the classic Wheel In The Sky, love his sky high vocal over Schon solo in the song.
La Do Da, Patiently, and Winds Of March again is a showcase for Perry. But Can Do and Opened The Door are the low part of the cd, and almost bring back the feel of the first three cds.
Rolie is still around, and shares leads with Perry on Feeling That Way and Anytime. Shame Rolie is reduced to this, because he is a good singer, it was just the direction the band was going in was not going to get them fame.
Production at times is a little heavy, and the new remasters only bring theses shortcomings more to the forefront.

This cd is my all time fav from Journey...

is that a bad thing? They were in transition with this cd....It's ok to still bring the feel in with you, while changing at the same time.

A lot of people like the first 3 cd's...Maybe not as much as this granted.

That's one of the reasons I like this cd so much...it's a great mix of old (which wasn't that old at all) and new.


I remember the '05 tour and the first half was my favorite...Just to hear those old and sometimes forgotten songs was a blast. My only complaint was that Rolie was not there to sing them.[/b]

Pretty much every track's a winner. Hands down, my favourite.

I love the use of harmonics and the clarity of SMFP's voice at this period.

OMG this is exactly what happened to me expect I was sitting on my friends bed and we were talking and listening to the radio and I heard this voice.....I got goosebumps...and the rest is history! lol I also begged my mom and dad for the album and I played it on my little white portable record player. lol Holy crap, I haven't thought about that record player in a long time. Man, I thought I was so cool. lol To this day, I still get goosebumps when I hear his voice.
