Awesome news!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Sat Apr 04, 2009 3:04 am

Hey everyone,

I just posted two new songs on my myspace page...they're by far the best thing we've done to date! They aren't really new, they're reworked songs I wrote a while ago, but they turned out amazing, and we're really happy with them. You have to check out the ending of "Long Night"! :D . I'm also pumped about "Eye Of The Storm". I'm not sure about my little keyboard solo though...it might change!

We've also decided on a name, and I think it kicks ass! I can't announce it yet, as we have to make sure we own it first and get the domain name. I've researched and googled it, and nothing shows up. We should be good. I'll be able to announce it very soon.

Once we get the name, we'll also be starting our own website. I've already contacted a very well-known artist to work on our logo and album cover...I can't wait to hear back from him! :D

Finally, I also uploaded "Angel" again. I've had several requests for it, but until today...you could only upload 6 songs. Now we can upload 10! It's definitely not going to be on the album, but a lot of people have sent me messages about the song, so I decided to put it back up. I wrote it a few years ago for my uncle's funeral, so it's very personal and special to me.

Well, that's it for now...now go check out those songs!!!

I hope it isn't "Haunted Taint" - that's gonna be my band name!

Thanks man, I really appreciate it! I got up this morning, and Alex had already sent me both songs. He's 6 hours ahead, so he was waiting for me to call him all morning. He did the ending vocals on "Long Night" as a joke, and assumed that I wouldn't like them...he was WAY wrong about that, and I think they kick ass! I couldn't be happier about the direction of the project, and I think it's all starting to fall in place. We'll also be adding another song in the next couple of days!

Jim,

This is meant as constructive criticism. I am not a musician so i may not express my self too well on this subject, but to me you write great choruses, and the verses in comparison are dull, some how they seem to lack energy, I don't know why. At a guess i would say because there is no memorable keyboard fill or guitar riff under the verses. However, as i say i don't really know what I'm talking about, accept i like the choruses and the verses in comparison are flat.

Now playing: Sigur Rós - Ágætis Byrjun

Thanks for the feedback Duncan, and I think you're right to a certain extent. I tend to write songs that are at my vocal level, and Alex can also sing pretty low notes. I think the choruses may sound a little bland because of the lower notes he sings them in. I also tend to strip the music back during the choruses so the the vocals can be the center piece. We'll be working on some new material over the next few days, and I'm trying to get out of my writer's rutt that I'm in. I have a lot of cool intro ideas, but then i catch myself going back to the same style of verses. I'm working on it...Thanks for the input!

Hey Jim,

I'll be spending quality time recording for your music next Wednesday. Sorry it took so long, but things have been crazy around here. The upside is that I have had a chance to listen to the music A LOT.

Will be fun to do!

Cheers,

Michael

hmm.. tough call here. I listed to Eye and Long, but there's something missing from these tunes. The other poster might have touched on something. There's no edge, are you using alot of midi instruments? Try loosening up the tempo via some kind of tempo "humanizer". That might help, but otherwise the overall songs are ok, they just need something to kick it up a notch. It sounds a bit too soft rock if you know what I mean. ;) Vocals are ok, a little heavy in the vibrato if you ask me. But still...I have to credit where it's due, these songs are not bad at all. Just needs some work before going primetime. ;)

Hey man,

Yeah, all of the sounds are played on my key's except the guitars so they do sound a little lifeless at the moment. When we get a budget together (whether our own, or from a label), we'll be heading to a real studio. We'll have Paul Logue on bass, me on Keys, Alex on rhythm guitars, but I'm not sure about drums or lead guitars yet. Drums will add a whole new dimension once we get them in there. Thanks again for the feedback!
