Ok, then why when someone here put TBF into a software program were they able to tell that the songs were basically bits and pieces of vocal lines all strung together? Seems to corroborate what I'm saying. I believe it was Liquid Drummer that discovered that.

Dan,
Too many fucking people here that claim to be audio engineers, state an opinion that needs to be soley supported by their so-called expertise, and conveniently support it with audio engineer experience they don't have at Journey's level. You might be gulable enough to buy the story of someone coming in and claiming TBF's vocals are comped to hell (based on their experience, despite not having much credit in the industry to support the assertion)....I'm not going to sit here and listen to such bullshit. I can and have the audio ability to issolate Perry's vox from TBF and extrapolate how much comping was done...but I guarantee you that Pineda's vocals are just as comped (or any other modern singer releasing albums these days).
Let's get real here. Every fucking vocal track out there, since the days of digital tracking (and even before) are severely comped. It's as fucking COMMON nowadays as blowjobs were on the sunset strip circa 1987. To use this as some justification for Perry not being able to cut it is downright stupid and once people see it on those terms, it becomes obvious that the efforts to undercut Perry's qualifications are seriously marred with alterior motives.
There's ONE person here...ONE person...that has a right to an opinion regarding this....and it's Alan Craft....since he was there during TBF's recording. I'd be willing to bet he's not going to cut Perry's legs out from under him when comparing him to any other Journey singer trying to sing like perry....it's not his style.
Listen, I blame Nose-face for fucking up this band in 97-98 more than anyone....but not because he can't sing the material. I'd be willing to bet that if Perry called Schlong tomorrow and said "Fire the fucking twerp from Manila and I'm back on tour tomorrow"...Schlong would do it in a heart beat...and Perry could sing the whole fucking catalog to everyone's delight. In fact, the entire tour revenue purse would likely double at the mere suggestion of it....

The fact that Pineda easily belts out the Revelation material on tour denies your "comped to hell" accusation, pertaining to him, of any merit. The bootlegs are proof of that. Where's any bootleg of Perry singing TBF material? Or anything else for that matter. Now maybe he had some sort of vocal surgery and can sing those songs now, but he couldn't come close to the original key back then.

Where are the 'several' things?
Your *one* point that Pineda's ability to sing the material live is proof enough that he didn't comp it in the studio....isn't proof at all. You can't point to unproven delivery in one medium and claim delivery/specific performance is equally compelling in an entirely different one. That's like saying you can hit a 90mph fastball, because you can hit alot of homeruns on your WII.![]()
The fact remains that comping vocals is a standard practice in modern recording. It's common place on every single modern album release including the current journey release. You're going to have a much harder road proving that Pineda *didn't* comp vocals on Revelations than anything else. Him singing the materally, currently 1/2 step down, doesn't mean he didn't comp it in the studio. not one bit.
