Discussion---Rating The Journey Album Collection

Postby mikemarrs » Wed Apr 08, 2009 2:51 pm

after listening to all the albums i thought it'd be interesting if people were interesting in rating the discography and seeing how people feel about the collection and where favorites and least favorites were ranked and why.

1-"Escape"--this was my first ever album and still a great one to play from start to finish and not really a bad track on it.something for everyone here including slower songs and heavy rockers like lay it down.

2."Captured"--to me this is the best live album ever released and they included two new songs.the party's over was an incredible tune and most of the tunes sound better live than the studio versions.

3."Infinity"--this one started it all and has great tunes throughout.

4."Evolution"--some great stuff on here.sweet and simple and too late are my favorites.

5."Departure"--another great album from start to finish.people and places is my favorite track here.

6."Frontiers"--i like the harder edged stuff like chain reaction and rubicon.

7."Raised On Radio"--the band was more pop here than ever but some great stuff throughout.

8."Trial By Fire"--easy to fall, one more, when you love a woman are standout tracks.

i stuck to the perry era but those are my ratings as far as the albums go.

1. Infinity- The only weak track is Can Do.
2. Escape.
3. Frontiers - Would have made number number two with the bonus tracks.
4. Evolution.
5. Departure.
6. Trial by fire
7. Raised on radio.
8. Captured. Last only because its a compilation. Best live album ever.

Never thought I'd see ROR top anyone's list. Good for you man; Perry was a god on that one.

Frontiers* * denotes the inclusion of Ask The Lonely and Only The Young
Escape
Raised On Radio
Revelation
Greatest Hits Live
Arrival

I have no fucking use vocally for the Mariah Carey years (Infinity, Departure and Evolution) and that's a shame because musically those albums are great. TBF is another example of incredible musicianship with shit vocals. It sounds like Perry swallowed 14 chainsaws before entering the studio. But I must say, even with Ginsu'd vocal chords I still liked When You Love A Woman and If He Should Break Your Heart. Generations marks the lowest point in the history of the band. Sorry Deen, but Better Life is almost as bad as LTS, and I consider that the worst song in recorded music history. Red 13...lol. That shit heap doesn't even warrant a review.

Yeah, I'm usually in the minority on that one, but I love it for some reason.

I actually really like ROR too. I know many people, especially hardcore Journey fans dont like this album, but I really like the top 40 singles like "Girl Cant help it", "Ill be alright without you", "Be good to yourself", and "Suzanne". Why cant this night go on forever is one of perry's best vocals.

I can go '78 - '08, but the 1st 3 albums, I'm not familiar enough with to rate them. I'd like to get them, but I've been too lazy to order them so far. I do like some of what I've heard though. But as for the rest...

Evolution
Infinity
Escape
Departure
ROR
Captured
Frontiers
Arrival
TBF
Generations
Revelation

The top 5 are very hard to place in a certain order though. And the only reason Departure isn't #2 or 3 is that I LOVE that material but I really like it better live. That material always belonged on a stage before it belonged on vinyl.

Hmm.....

Escape
Raised On Radio
Frontiers
Trial By Fire
Arrival

^I enjoy almost every song on these 5 (though some songs on Arrival put me to sleep, I still like them)

I haven't played my Evolution, Departure and Infinity albums in years (all vinyl)...but I like the hits and a few of the non-hits on each.
