This is really interesting:

Now here's a song with an interesting history.

It was written by big band leader Buddy Johnson in 1945, and his sister Ella sang and recorded it with the band, but the song never went anywhere.

Several people recorded it later including Dinah Washington, but not until an almost unknown vocalist, Lenny Welch, sang it did this incredible song finally reach the public consciousness.

And it broke into the Billboard Top 40 on a noteworthy day, Nov. 23, 1963, the day after JFK was assassinated, and stayed there for the next 3 months.

Did the mood of the nation, help it? I'll always wonder about that, but Beatlemania soon arrived, popular musical tastes seemed to change, and Lenny never had another recording that did as well as this one.
