Just wrote my best song yet!!!

Postby G.I.Jim » Sun Apr 12, 2009 1:05 am

Hey everyone,

I just finished writing the longest and best song I've ever written, and HAD to share it. It's not completely polished yet, but you've gotta check it out!!! I only put a clip on myspace, the entire song is 6 1/2 minutes long!  it's very modern sounding, but melodic at the same time. The clip is over 3 minutes long, and is the last half of the song. You don't even hear any verses in the clip, it's that long!

I think it's almost like a rock opera song. Anyways, check it out if you're interested. it's called "If We Believe". I'll also be adding a brand new version of "Losing You" later today once I finish the backing vocals. I think it's Alex's best guitar work ever! Hope you enjoy these, and Happy Easter everyone.

"Rumor's Out" is just a phenomenal song, Jim. That one is my favorite. I think I account for about 400 of its 500 listens!  Keep them coming. The guitar is RO sounds so much like Frankie Sullivan from Survivor; it's just fantastic.

Listening now - I like it! Nice bittersweet, melancholy touch to it.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Thanks Dan! I really like that song too, but it probably won't be included on this album...it's a little too hard edge compared to the rest of the songs. We haven't completely made our mind up about it yet though...guess we'll see how it plays out. We're going to start approaching labels on Monday! :D

So did you check out "If We Believe"? I've never been so excited about any of my songs like this before! :D

Well, now I've heard the 'whole' thing (what's there, anyway) - love it! Now I know what to have playing the next time I talk on line to my soldier-boy ;)

Good luck with the labels.

For me, something's missing when he says "If We Believe." There needs to be something in the background...I'm not sure what, but it sounds like there's an instrument missing. I can't explain it, but just try to imagine something in the background during that part. I'm not "musical" enough to put my finger on it, but something needs to be added. The song also needs some sort of "crescendo"...that defining moment where it all comes together and slaps you in the face like a 10 inch dick. And no, I don't know what that's like!!!

Now, I can hear a good, soaring string section in there...

Uh huh...that's not what Deano said!  So are you talking about the first chorus you hear, or during the second one? I purposely tried to keep the song very stripped back, but I'm ALWAYS open to suggestions. To me, the last chorus is the slap in the face, but maybe I'm wrong? Let me know if you have any ideas.

I'll be adding a few more strings to build it up just a tad, and I'll have Alex change the pronunciation a two or three words. I think it's going to be our most powerfull song we've done! True! It's not easy being in love with someone who has to put you second every time, and who is stationed so far away, but we deal with it as best we can. Fingers crossed we'll be in the same city later this year for a while, before he gets posted overseas again.

Yup. Currently in Darwin, just back from East Timor, and if he gets the transfer he wants, will be in Afghanistan next year, which scares the hell out of me (not that I can let him know that.)

Thank you. Feel free to add it to that thread. I won't charge you anything for the use of the song.  I'm going to play around with adding more strings and stuff to beef it up a little. I'll be working on it more today, and the song on myspace will be replaced once it's done. Like I said, I've got to have Alex make a couple of corrections, and I think it'll be perfect vocally! Happy Easter MG!

I'll be adding a few more strings to build it up just a tad, and I'll have Alex change the pronunciation a two or three words. I think it's going to be our most powerfull song we've done! I wrote the entire song in about three hours. :D That's a new record for me.
Thanks , I didn't know when I joined this forum what wonderfully talented people I would be meeting; I talk about you guys at work so much it's unreal. I got to tell them about your new song. :) :D If you don't mind!

Thanks Ann. I'm glad you like it. This is the 1st draft, so I'll be changing a few things.

Please don't tell anyone...I'm trying to keep this project hush-hush!   Thanks very much for the compliments, and I'm really glad you like the songs. This place does have many talented people, and not just musically. There are some amazing artists, some comedians, some very intelligent people, and some great debaters here too. This place is like a one-stop-shop for all of your entertainment needs!
OK, 8) I won't tell anyone until you say so.

SO!!! :D :D

"Losing You" has now been replaced with the final version. Man, I just can't get over how awesome Alex did on the guitars!!! I think this solo is his best work ever. Check it out around the 3:15 mark...just awesome! We're finishing up "If We Believe" tomorrow, redoing the rhythm guitars on the intro on "Sooner Or Later", than it's off to the labels on Monday...wish us luck!

G.I.Jim wrote:Hey everyone,

Jim, do you know about REVERBNATION?

You can post a lot more songs than MySpace and I find it a little more available to most people.

Here's my ReverbNation site, with some old stuff and some new stuff.
