Need some JSS help

Postby Ehwmatt » Mon Apr 13, 2009 4:13 am

So, I'm not crazy about some of the (limited) JSS solo stuff I've heard, especially compared to his work with Yngwie, but Believe In Me is awesome, as are New Position and Coming Home from Soul SirkUS. Give me some stuff that's like that you JSS nuts.

"Broken Man" and "Our Song" are essentials.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Another World is my favorite track from Soul Sirkus - there was a clip on YT at one time but it's gone. Also - Eyes of Love from the Prism album:

I would recommend getting the Lost in the Translation album and the Talisman Genesis Album. Both are great showcases of JSS's voice. Give both a listen, and you'll be won over.

With that said, Love Parade is at the top of my list. Gary Schutt play guitar on a lot of them, including Dragon Attack, so that's a plus. I liked that JSS effort best anyway, even before I knew Gary.

4U from Firefest (followed by Gin and Tonic Sky)

LITT is a must. look left.

guitar solo from Drowning at Firefest

ya just can't go wrong with Talisman. my fav is 5 Men Live, cd/dvd
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAkaPODFMkc

Alex, aka lexilyn @ youtube has TONS of Talisman and JSS vids. you can stay there for hours. also, go to jeffscottsoto.com.

and one of my favorites--JSS and the SPURS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDPNdmzsd6I

(hehe--I'm so evil. HEY!!! he got me riled up with that recent shot of him in the Looser.er.....Lakers shirt!!)

I could go on and on. in fact, I usually do. but this'll do for now.

just one more and I'll schutt up. well, you did ask...just sayin'

JSS has some excellent vocal work on Gary Schutt's SENTIMENTAL cd. Gary's music is very prog rock and complicated musically (if ya like that kinda schutt-and I do), and just a tad dark at times. Jeff really wails on this album.

here's STRANDED live from that cd. this song was #1 on A German radio station in '95--and my personal GS favorite. 8)

ALL Talisman is good, and I was also a big fan of his work in Takara and Axel Rudi Pell.

Yeah you can't go wrong with Talisman, totally agree.

I'm a huge fan of the Soul Sirkus stuff too, Coming Home is awesome and My Sanctuary is great, love the whole album. I have both versions of World Play, the first with Deen Castronovo on drums (black cover), the 2nd with Virgil Donati on drums, yellow cover comes with a DVD, green cover is just the cd I believe. The 2nd has extra stuff, and there is a killer all-JSS-vocal called "My Love, My Friend" that alone is worth the 2nd version. Soul Sirkus was awesome.

His new one Beautiful Mess is cool, but my fav solo from him is LITT. Soul Divine and Sacred Eyes are awesome songs. If you like ballads, his Essential Ballads album is awesome. Not to step on the Journey toes here, lol, but his version of Send Her My Love is killer.

Check out his Queen Convention live stuff too, it's awesome.
