^ Has anyone ever seen this? It's nothing particularly jaw-dropping, but I think it's a pretty solid cover all around of a fantastic song. I like the singer's take on it; particular the chorus moneyshots (love and callin').

Gideon wrote:The band itself is pretty impressive and well coordinated; unlike the Zoo during their Journey covers. But I really like this guy's take on it. He looks ancient, though.
Gideon wrote:MoL is an excellent song. I realize that detractors point out that it's basically the younger sister of SW, but I prefer it to the original SW. The only version of SW that I think is remotely close to MoL is the revamped one with the extended jam session after Neal's solo.
Otherwise, MoL really kicks ass.

Nothing like a decent bar band, playing good music and slamming back a few cold ones. Come to think of it...nothing like the real deal, playing good music and slamming back a few cold ones.

Sorry. I've had to hang around politicians too much. Yes or no's are hard to come by.

I realize that JSS enjoys a certain celebrity status around here and, indeed, I've come to love much of his solo work, but Journey songs are driven by a strong tenor. "Message of Love" is no different.Perry is a tenor.

Actually:
Perry's vocal classification is tenor altino, a term used to describe a man who sings in the highest possible male register (above tenor and including what would, if sung by a woman, be called alto or mezzo), using a natural or "chest" voice and employing falsetto only in his extreme upper register. Depending on whether the definition being used includes chest voice or is limited to falsetto only, this is also a form of countertenor.
Just sayin.

Perry is a tenor. Augeri is a tenor. Arnel is a tenor. JSS is not. So, no... it's not the same thing at all.

It's all good and well quoting other peoples advise form the internet. This is where I have to question this. Are people singers, do they know how the voice actually works by demonstrating, (sometimes people may sound like they are singing low, where in fact they are actually singing high) singers will know this. As far as I am concerned unless people are good singers and fully understand the voice by actually learning, I don't see how anyone is qualified in having an answer, weather JSS is out of range or not. As a singer myself, I can't tell - I can't, and because JSS is superior to me IMO, and personally I don't think Message Of Love is a hard song to sing. Perry sang this song at the end of his career, and it was written for his voice at the time IMO.
It also doesn't help the fact people are trying to sing it like Steve Perry, and they simply cannot do it (that could be a contributing factor to why people end up losing their voice in the end)
