As much as Id like to see RedWings win this year, I think the Final 2 teams will be Blackhawks vs Devils. Devils will win the final series 4-2 . 8)

Montreal vs. Boston...

It's deja vu all over again.

The exact re-match of the 1-8 from 2008 - but in bizzaro world, the Bruins are the 1/Montreal the 8.

Washington - New York

Ovechkin on Broadway.

Rangers have the goalie to win but may not have the players in front of the goalie.

Capitals have the players to win but may not have the goalie to win.

New Jersey - Carolina

Based on their histories - this would appear to be a trapping snorefest - a soccer game on ice.

Au contraire mon frere, this is 2009 - and both teams have become more aggressive - finishing in the middle of the pack in terms of goal scoring.

Maybe the best thing about this series is it's a first round series and there'll be other games to watch.

Pittsburgh - Philadelphia

The re-match of the Eastern Conference Finals from a year ago - this time there is no guarantee the winner gets to play for the Cup.

So here it is...

Boston - Montreal - pick 'em (the odds will be overwhelmingly for the Bruins - but Boston has had a "dream" season with minimal adversity.

The Bruins may be the Rodney Dangerfield of the 2008-09 season. They didn't get too much respect. The Bruins went through the season with a play-off intensity throughout.

The Krejci-Ryder-Wheeler line was unbelievable for a stretch during the season. David Krejci was a top 10 player for a month during the season but hasn't sniffed that level in some time. Ryder has a history of being disappearing and Wheeler is a rookie that may have hit a wall.

In my opinion, the Bruins don't have another level to raise their game - but their game is at a high level and may be enough to make a serious run. However, I'm not a believer.

If the Habs were healthy on the blueline - they'd easily be my pick for the series. The "second season" gives them a chance to start over with a clean slate after a tumultuous season.

So basically, I'll call this series a toss-up. If the Bruins get off to a good start and win their home games - gain some confidence and swagger - it could be over in 5.

But, I'm not afraid to look stupid (some would argue, it comes naturally to me - the belief is that the Bruins may have false confidence, thinking that being the 1 seed means something in itself and it doesn't. Montreal is the perfect "cocky" 8 seed.

Prediction - Montreal advances by winning 4 games

Washington-New York

I love watching the Caps. Mike Green and these Russians named Alex are pretty good hockey players. If only a Russian were in net it would be easy to pick the Caps.

The Rangers were boring hockey personified. But since the coaching change - they actually skate and forecheck.

This could be a wide open series - with the clear edge in scoring to the Caps and clear edge in goaltending to the Rangers.

Conventional wisdom is that defense wins in the playoffs.

Conventional wisdom is to draft your team and hold.

I like offense - go with Washington in the series.

Carolina-New Jersey

If you're still reading this, I apologize. If you're reading this because my wife is trying to have me committed - I'll go voluntarily if I can have the NHL package...

Seriously, this series seems to be of little interest - and would be rated as the 7th or 8th most interesting series in the first round.

But from low expectations - you can be pleasantly surprised.
It's like fantasy drafts - sure you're happy with Eric Staal's season this year - but for a second rounder - you kind of expected it. But for 45 goals from Zach Parise in the 5th round - you're psyched.

The Devils were written off before the season. When Brodeur went down - the book was closed. This team is like Jason in the horror movies - they don't go away.

But I'll predict that Cam Ward will rival Marty Brodeur in this series and that Eric Staal and the Whaler-canes will advance.

Pittsburgh-Philadelphia

Running out of gas, fingers bleeding, life calling - this one will be quick. The heart wants Pittsburgh - but the head tells me that Philly is going a long way this year. They have a beast of a team to play against for a series.

I don't like going against my heart - but the head says Philly will prevail this time around.

So Round 2 matchups

Washington-Montreal
Philadelphia-Carolina

(I already don't like my picks)

Change it to

Boston - New York
New Jersey - Pittsburgh

(Much Better - go back and reverse all that I've written)

Nevermind...

So Montreal-Washington = Montreal
Philly-Carolina = Philly

Philly - Montreal

PHILLY

I'll be back for the West matchups later today

I believe Stanley is going to spend the next year with a Western Conference team, and previously, I believed it would be Detroit. I'm now saying San Jose.

This is not to say that I'm not behind my home team (who, by the way, totally smoked Detroit twice this weekend :D ), and apart from Chicago, I'm a Detroit fan as well, but I get a San Jose vibe here. Playoff season is gonna be fun this year. :D

If Chicago plays their playoff games like they have the last few games, they could go all the way . RedWings hasnt been good lately, but you never know, when playoff hits, thats when they play their BEST,,,,

The WEST...

San Jose vs Anaheim

I don't know why but I'm not interested in this series. Anaheim has no business being here and they're going to show it. Sharks will go through this series quickly.

Prediction: Sharks in 4

Detroit vs Columbus

Just when I was looking forward to the Jackets playing the Flames, they get passed. Steve Mason's been on fire all season, pretty much guaranteeing the Calder and making a serious run at the Vezina. Jackets have a superior man between the pipes and by the time Babcock realizes Osgood shouldn't be in there, the series will be over.

Prediction: Jackets in 6

Vancouver vs St. Louis

I am so keen for this series. The 2 hottest teams in the NHL going head to head, this one's going to be great. I'm not sold on Sundin as he's been nothing more then a bust in his time in Van-city, recording his worst season of his entire Hall of Fame career(damn glad he chose not to go to Montreal but I will admit, I wanted him in Mtl all summer). He posted his worst ever points per game and goals per game total in his career as well. The only thing that'll keep the Canucks in this series is the phenomenal goaltending Bobby Lu is sure to put on as I can't see the Sedins being able to carry the team on their backs.

Prediction: Blues in 7

Chicago vs Calgary

This series is very reminiscint to the Pens-Sens series from last year.On one hand you have a very young and solid group of players with 2 number 1 goalies. On the other hand, you have a struggling team since the Trade deadline(8-11-0) who have an over-worked goalie. I just don't see the Flames being able to compete against the Hawks.

Prediction: Hawks in 5

Round 2

San Jose vs St. Louis

The Blues train will definitely bow out to the superior Shawks attack.

Prediction:

Sharks in 6

Chicago vs Columbus

This match up will be another solid series. 2 very talented teams with very respected defensive minded coaches. I will be looking forward to this series.

Prediction: Hawks in 7

San Jose vs Chicago

The Sharks will be well rested for this series and the Hawks will be in tough. This will be the series that proves whether or not the Sharks are true Cup contenders. Personally, I'd like to think the Sharks can compete but for some reason I have this nagging feeling Brian Campbell is going to earn his high end salary in this series.

Prediction: Hawks in 7

STANLEY CUP FINAL...

Chicago Blackhawks vs Montreal Canadiens

My dream Cup Finals. Original-6 match up for the first time since the Monreal-NY Rangers Final in 1978-79.

2 of the brightest young forwards in the NHL against the brightest young goalie in the world.

I will be looking forward to this come May/June. Remember...The Habs have won a Cup in EVERY decade since the inception of the NHL and this is their final chance to continue this amazing record. I say that fate will be on their side!

Stanley Cup Finals prediction:

You're 2008-09 Cup Champions and 25-time Cup winners:

I like how you think. :D My dream cup final includes the Blackhawks against anyone but Boston (because that's almost a sure loss). I think Chicago could take the conference over Detroit, but San jose I'm not sure about. I guess we shall see how it shakes out. 8)

LOL, dude, check yourself. Anaheim beat Vancouver, and San Jose on the road last week. They are definitely worthy and wouldn't shock me in the least if they beat SJ. If any team doesn't deserve to be here, it's Montreal. Talk about a shit team that limped into the playoffs? Hell, they had to rely on a tie breaker with that hotbed of a hockey town, Miami, to get in over the Panthers. Boston will annihilate those scrubs.

Vancouver vs St. Louis

The best goaltender in the world isn't going to lose to the Blues. Vancouver has the best record in Hockey for 2 months now.

Chicago vs Calgary

Hawks in 5? Agreed. Calgary basically folded up shop the last 4 weeks.

I can see Carolina giving New Jersey all they want. If I were a betting man, I would take either Vancouver or Detroit in the west, against Carolina or Jersey in the east.

Luongo v Brodeur would be epic.

Uh...okay...I guess we're on a different wavelength here.
Honestly, I don't really expect Boston to choke in the first round...my predictions are based on what my heart thinks. As a diehard Habs fan, even I think they'll get the boot in 5 games. They stopped playing with any heart about a month ago. It's embarrassing. Heads are going to roll in this organization once their season is over.

Komisarek better get a check-up from the neck up, or Lucic is gonna knock him 6 months into the future. He's no better than Ulf Samuelsson. Montreal backed into the playoffs.....Boston in 5.

Sure hope you're wrong.....

Looks like Deb and Bjg aren't gonna be getting along too well, sportswise, starting Thursday.
Round one, ahoy!! May the best team win. :D

 Like BB says.........It's on like Donkey Kong, sistah! Image

I was being very sincere in saying "may the best team win", but if that's how you want it, sistah, then let's roll!!
