I really like the song "Edge of The Blade" from the Frontiers album. I'm curious, does anyone know if Steve, Jon or Neal ever discussed what or who may have inspired the lyrics? If so, what's the story?

I liked the vocals, but it seemed overproduced. A little to much going on.

It's some kind of Valhalla viking sounds I guess . Most of the Scandinavian metal bands like to incorporate that stuff into their music.

Well that could be true except for the fact that this song was written and recorded on Frontiers released Feb 1983. Steve didn't stop touring 1987.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were joking. I always like it when a song writer gives some background and what was their inspiration. There's definitely some bad feelings being expressed in the song the question is about whom.....ex-wife maybe?

i remember buying Frontiers and NEVER listening to the second side.. it was all first side for a long while..

i was loving cassettes.. get to the end and rewind it .. crazy times..

but now.. EOTB and Troubled Child are my favs on that album..

Troubled Child and Chain Reaction...as good as it gets. I used to love playing both of them with Frontiers. I think Troubled Child was the most challenging Journey song I've ever learned! Very intricate parts in there. Awesome song.

I always thought that Edge of the Blade was aimed at someone who you trusted and then was screwed over by, and is basically ranting at them warning them that they'll only hurt themselves in the end. In fact Im sure Steve was singing it about neal and Neal thinks about steve when playing it. Heck, they probobably got paper mache effigies of each other in their garages and crank up the song and hit the effigy with a stick, all to the beat of the music.

"Make sure your now holding the edge of the blade" is a classic line. I used it with my ex wife not to long ago. She dumped me 10 years ago for another man, and just recently hes done the same. Im not really bitter, we were both young, but as she told me it was all a mistake she made- I had to come out with the line:

"Im sorry for you, that is kind of what happens when you're holding the wrong edge of the blade" . Had to make me smile.
